Moving from a high school to a university is one of the most sighnificant milestone in any

student’s life. Usually, it takes a long time - a few weeks, a few months or even a year to
settle into university life because there are many new experiences in university
environment that a high school student has never been through. In general, being a high
school student is different from being a university student.

Firstly, the biggest difference between being a high school student and being a university
student is about scheduling. As a high school student, your scheduling depends on your
school. Most high school students are seriously managed by their school, especially
scheduling to make sure that all of them complete the national curriculum on time like
other students as the same age accross their country. Therefore, high school students
have to follow the schedule that is fixed by their school and adjust the time for other
activities outside the school in a way that suits their official schooling timetable.
Whereas, it seems way much easier for a university student to arrange their schedule by
themselves. As usual, university students need flexible time to balance among study,
partime job and learning other important skills for their future job. That’s why they have
right to choose what subjects they want to learn and what time to begin a particular
subject as long as it is in accordance with their daily timetable.

Secondly, contacting with parents is another common difference. High school students
still live with their parents under the same roof everyday. They have not fully developed
mentally and physically so they need to stay at home and recieve much care from their
parents. Whereas, university students is supposed to be mature enough to live far from
their parents. They can learn to manage time and work part time to pay for their own
living expenses. Not only does that help them to be more independent and get used to
being a adult but also help their parents a lot.

Thirdly, the circle of friends you get when you study at a high school is different from that
in university. In high school, your friends are all the same age as you and mostly from the
same area. Your high school friends and you may not have the same interest as each
other but still become good friends because you all live in the same town or city and
meet each other on the way to your school everyday during your childhood. In contrast,
the ones who you make friends with at university can be much older or sometimes
younger than you and they may come from many different parts of the country. Most
interestingly, it’s easier for a university student to make friends with ppl have the same
interest as them because you and your university friends have passed the national
examination to register the same major which is the favourite of you all.

There are many differences between what a high school student have experienced and
what a university student have gone through.
