Should students take a gap year before entering college?

College is not the only path to success for today's youth, but it is the easiest. The
reason is that at university, young people will be fully equipped with the necessary
knowledge and skills to integrate into society in various positions. However, at the
time of choosing a major at the end of grade 12, not too many students found a
suitable path. Therefore, the current trend is to do a gap year. The gap year is the
period between high school and college when a student takes a break from their
studies to pursue other activities, including traveling, working, or volunteering.
Here are the pros and cons of this decision.
First, for many students, the gap year provides an opportunity to gain skills and
experience while providing time for reflection and focus on what they want to do
next. Students use the time to volunteer, work, or practice to find out what they are
passionate about and what they want to achieve in their future careers. This is also
the perfect time for them to discover who they are and try anything new they can.
A gap year will give you lessons that are not taught in the classroom. Learning will
not only revolve around academic problems, but it can be a plan to become
determined to master a foreign language, bravely participate in an extreme sport,
strengthen your Informatics skills, or try experience teaching English for example.
Second, taking a gap year also helps them have a break after 12 consecutive years
of study and for parents to prepare for the cost of sending their children to college.
A gap year before starting college or starting work can help you feel refreshed,
energized, and ready to complete your course or job. Abby Falik, founder of
Global Citizen Year - a program that combines tourism, language learning, and
community activities with 500 participants, also confirmed that gap year support
programs such as Global Citizen Year, etc. a complete preparation for college life
for many students. She shared: “90% of young people participating in our Global
Citizen Year program, including those who applied to another university, make the
right and suitable university choice. with me”.
However, everything has its price. Many people think that gap year should not be
because studying gap year means that students will go to school one year later and
of course graduate later than their peers. A gap year can significantly affect
learning psychology when studying one year later or even longer than peers.
Furthermore, students who decide to take a gap year may also lose their motivation
to study. The ability to acquire knowledge and study skills may be reduced,
making it difficult for students to adjust and adapt to the learning environment.
When pursuing a learning goal, they need to focus on it. A time gap of many years
can cause students to lose interest and motivation to continue learning when they
can do more than just focus on school.
In conclusion, the gap year is not completely detrimental, but it will slow down the
study plan and potentially pose unnecessary risks and risks to the study plan. Gap
year, college or work are all decisions of each person. Gap year or university is not
the only path to choose. Do the things you like. Be confident with what you want.
All efforts and hard work lead to success. Success or failure is your definition.

Children Should Learn A Foreign Language At Their Early Age

Language is the best means of communication. In the modern globalization
era, it is not enough to be able to speak one language to communicate with the
outside world. So, learning foreign languages is a great beneficial skill because we
live in a communicated era and knowing different languages makes
communication easier, therefore I agree that foreign language should be taught to
children as early as possible.
Firstly, human brain ability will decrease when they grow up. Several recent
research indicates that children can memorize and understand new languages
automatically after they are born until 4 years, and this ability will decrease
afterward. So, adults need more effort to learn such things. Furthermore, when
children start their early education, their minds remain fresh, and they can catch
more information. It is the ideal time to learn a new language so they can master
the language in a short time. As a result, somebody should train them as soon as
they start school.
Second, at this age children do not have any involvement in important tasks
or problems, the duties of children are eating, playing, and studying, they do not
think much about life and the world so they do not have any responsibility to worry
about and can concentrate on their study by watching videos, cartoons, or looking
at the colorful books, pictures and real objects or joining some games, they can
learn new things quickly and more efficiently. On the contrary, adults are
concerned about jobs, earning, future, personal and social life, and many other
things. Also, they can learn another language more easily in their childhood than
in adolescence period. According to Lauren Whitaker, in charge of the children's
English program of Language Link International Education Group in Vietnam,
children should learn foreign languages from a young age, and especially they will
only be excited with the teaching method. Learning is learning to play, playing to
learn! This is in stark contrast to the way adults learn foreign languages, where
they tend to cram a large vocabulary and complex verb usages at the same time.
Thirdly, because learning a foreign language from starting school, children
have more time to practice the language. This helps them have a good reflection in
communication. They feel confident when speaking in a foreign language. They
can find scholarships or find a job easily because bilingual children are likely to be
hired by companies when they grow up. Nowadays, as trading between countries
increases, many employers tend to hire their interns or employee with the skill to
speak different languages. Therefore, learning another language in their childhood
period will eventually benefit them in the future.
Finally, some people disagree with this matter and claim that the other
subjects are more important than learning foreign languages and it is better that
teachers allocated the time of this subject to another field such as mathematics and
science, however, researchers believe that learning a foreign language help to
improve other skills, since it is very challenging and enhance the brain’s abilities.
In conclusion, learning a foreign language as soon as children start school
has many advantages, but we should arrange to study time effectively for children
so that they feel that learning a foreign language is very interesting and useful.
