1. Compare and contrast the traditional literacy to the modern view of literacy.
Traditional literacy has been practiced for many years and is mostly dependent on the use
of text. A language's written form, or script, is used to create texts that can be read. It
basically involves a procedure that enables authors to produce literary works employing
words, sounds, symbols, and images. The method of modern literacy is rapidly changing. It
varies from conventional literacy in that it excludes the use of a written language or script.
Instead, it entails the creation of new types of texts and material using digital technology and
gadgets. We will examine each of these approaches to literacy in this lesson.
2. Describe the changes in the 21st century that have led to the rise of new literacies.
Problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, authentic learning, appropriate use of
technology, and cross-disciplinary teaching are some of the most important elements of 21st
century education. Therefore, 21st century education is about providing students with the
skills they need to succeed in this new world and assisting them in developing the confidence
to put those skills into practice. With so much information at their fingertips, 21st century
skills are more focused on making sense of it, sharing it, and using it wisely. The topic of
new literacies is how technologies like the Internet and computers have affected literacy.
People are now able to produce texts that include music, visuals, and movement, which is one
way literacy has changed.
