Thematic Process Breakout Session Guidline

Kick- off, 1st Stakeholders’ Consultation Meeting


10th World Water Forum

OBJECTIVE
• To understand the basic Forum thematic framework categorized in six Forum themes
• To facilitate an intimate discussion between Forum participants who have a common
interest in a particular theme.
• To develop the concept of each six Forum theme by narrowing down the scope
through interactive small group discussion.
• To specify six Forum themes into topic by discussing keywords and sub areas as the
first step of theme development of the Thematic Process.
• To make primary 5-6 tentative topics to be used as a source of further identification of
final topics under each theme.

EXPECTED OUTCOME
① Common understanding of the participants in a respective breakout session on the
basic concept of each of six Forum themes that Forum co-organizers of the Forum
propose.
② 5-6 groups of Keywords/primary issues of the theme per each table
③ 5-6 tentative topics per each room(breakout session) and a short description of each
topic
(Topics are highly recommended to be made with an action-based verb)
*How these session outcomes will be delivered and used?
- The results of the individual break-out session will be reported at the closing ceremony
to all participants of the Kick-off meeting.
- The result will be used as the essential materials and substance to finalize the topics
under each Forum theme.

ACTORS & ROLES


Moderators (Two per each session room) will
• Give a 5 to 10min presentation on the designated theme at the beginning of the session
to make everyone understand a basic concept of the theme in general (Presentation will
be given by the organizer)
• Give a guideline to table discussants:
- clear expected outcomes,
- way to fill in the template by each table,
- time keeping alarm.
• Give each Table Lead 2min to present the summary of the table discussion.
• Facilitate a discussion and let all each table bring their keywords by using Mentimeter on
the screen.
*Staff will assist to use a Mentimeter
• Moderate discussion to incorporate keywords be grouped in 5-6 and make a result of 5-6
topics interacting with discussants.
*Staff will follow the discussion and present discussed topics on the screen

Rapporteurs (Two per each session room) will


• will be given a template for session result which will be presented at the last part of the
discussion.
• fill out the template with the final result of the each thematic breakout session: 5-6 topics
and short description
• present a result (maximum 5min) at the closing ceremony.

Contributors will
Facilitate the table discussion let each table have interactive discussion and make a result in
time

Staffs will
Assist overall breakout session in moderation, discussion, operation discussion tool
(ex.mentimeter), etc.

*The filled-out templates by each table and the session result written by a rapporteur will be collected by
the WWC staff at the end of the session.
