MATERIALS
a. 3 pairs of surgical gloves (2 for the Obstetrician or the one who handles the delivery;
1 for the pediatrician or the cord care)
b. 2 warm blankets; 1 sterile towel
c. Bonnet
d. Cord clamp(s)
e. Forceps (2 forceps may be needed if there are cord coils)
f. 2 pairs of scissors (one for episiotomy; use separate scissors for cutting the cord)
g. Bulb syringe
h. Syringes (1 pc tuberculin; 1 pc 3cc)
i. Oxytocin for the mother and 1 pc 3cc syringe plus cotton balls: dry and with alcohol
j. OS Gauze
k. Needle holder (optional)
l. Suture (optional)
m. Tissue forceps

PREPARATION
Steps Rationale
Puts on DR suit: scrub suit, mask, cap, and DR
shoes properly.
Checks for the functionality of lights, delivery
table, oxygen apparatus, suction apparatus, and
emergency cart.
Do handwashing.
Gathers equipment’s and supplies needed (refer
to above materials)
Prepare the place of birth
a. Prepare the delivery table, and put the
Kelly pad.
b. Place the instrument table near the
delivery table and uncover it.
c. Prepare the instruments needed by the
newborn.
d. Ready resuscitation equipment.
e. Prepare also forms and charts that must
be filled up in the delivery room

 Baby’s layette (bonnet
 Medications (Erythromycin ointment, Vitamin K, Hepatitis B vaccine, BCG (optional)
 Cord clamp
 2 1cc syringe

PREPARATION
1. Prepares baby’s layette (bonnet, mittens, booties, small lines, big linen, baby’s dress, diaper)
2. Ensures availability of supplies and medications for use: (tuberculin syringes, sterile cotton
balls (wet and dry), sterile gauze, 70% alcohol, cord clamps, thermometer, tape measure,
weighing scale wrist bands, ophthalmic ointment, Vit. K, vaccines (BCG, Hepa B)
