I. Defined:
1. Citizenship
- Citizenship is a relationship between an individual and a state to which the individual owes
allegiance and in turn is entitled to its protection. Each state determines the conditions
under which it will recognize persons as its citizens, and the conditions under which that
status will be withdrawn.
- A citizen is a person who, by place of birth, nationality of one or both parents, or
naturalization is granted full rights and responsibilities as a member of a nation or political
community.
2. Consumption
- Consumption, defined as spending for acquisition of utility, is a major concept in economics
and is also studied in many other social sciences. It is seen in contrast to investing, which is
spending for acquisition of future income. Different schools of economists define
consumption differently.
3. Nationalism
- Nationalism is an idea and movement that holds that the nation should be congruent with
the state. As a movement, nationalism tends to promote the interests of a particular nation,
especially with the aim of gaining and maintaining the nation's sovereignty over its
homeland.
- Identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion
or detriment of the interests of other nations.
4. Rights and responsibilities
- Rights and responsibilities help make our communities better. Rights are freedoms we have
that are protected by our laws, while responsibilities are duties or things that we should do.
In order to be good citizens, or members of a community, we must understand our rights
and responsibilities.
5. Diversity
- The state of being diverse; variety.
"There was considerable diversity in the style of the reports"
- The practice or quality of including or involving people from a range of different social and
ethnic backgrounds and of different genders, sexual orientations, etc.
"Equality and diversity should be supported for their own sake"
