and India’s role in the organization.
Q3. What are specialized agencies? Give two examples.
Ans3. The specialized agencies of the United Nations are the agencies that work on
economic, social, health and environmental problems of the world by helping the
countries which are facing these problems. For example –
1. The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) works
for the development and protection of children and women.
2. The World Health Organization (WHO) works to promote health of the people
around the world.
Q4. Describe the achievements of the UN.
Ans4. 1.The main aim of the United Nations is to maintain peace and prevent the
outbreak of wars in the world. So far it has been successful in its aim.
2.There have been wars between countries, but the UN has prevented them from
turning into world wars.
3. The UN has also been successful in preventing the use of dangerous weapons.
4.The UN has also been working remarkably well in its fight against environmental
issues, poverty and diseases. A lot of work is still pending in many parts of the
world.
