Assignment 2- CLO 2 – C4 – PLO2

Analysis of homogeneity of differential equations

Due Date: 25th Feb 2023 Marks 10

Definition of Word:

Homogeneous, in English, means "of the same kind"

For example "Homogenized Milk" has the fatty parts spread evenly through
the milk (rather than having milk with a fatty layer on top.)

Homogenous Function

Homogeneous functions are mathematical functions that have the same derivative at every point
in a certain domain. In other words, they are functions that maintain the same slope or gradient at
every point in a given range. This makes them particularly useful for solving problems involving
curves and surfaces. [1]

Homogenous differential Equation in standard form

What is the physical interpretation of

homogeneous?
One example is load. If you have a support beam (like a bridge or a part of the building), if it's at rest its shape is
defined by the 4th order ODE. If the ODE is homogeneous, the beam is not loaded and its shape depends only on the
boundary conditions (support). However if we put some weight on it, the equation becomes non-homogeneous. And
the function g is proportional to weight at point x
