Students will be able to count and write numbers 0-20. They will have an understanding of
counting in sequence.
Cue Set: Have you ever needed to count things at home? What kind of things do we need to count?
Teaching Strategy:
The lesson will start with an introduction video - https://youtu.be/Aq4UAss33qA
You just told me all sorts of things we can count in real life. Today we are going to practice
counting different things and keeping the numbers in order as we go.
The teacher will demonstrate writing and saying #’s 0-20 on the board at the front of the
class. The class will follow along and echo teacher. Students will begin memorizing number
names and sequences.
Explain that when they add one number at a time, they are counting. Provide examples of
situations where counting occurs
Confirm Understanding - What other things do you now know that we can count? Why do we
need to count them?
Guided Practice:
Students will share with a partner in small groups ideas of things they can count
Independent Practice:
Worksheet - count, color, and trace numbers/objects
Assessment/closure: Review writing 0-20. What can we do next with numbers?
Have students find things that they count at home to share with the class.
