1.0 PURPOSE

This Procedure is intended to provide guidance and instructions for cleaning and
Maintenance of rotameter.

2.0 RESPONSIBILITY
1.0 All the C&I personnel involved in carrying out /supervising the above activities are
required to ensure implementation of this procedure and may consult any other
relevant documents indicated under Reference section below.
1.1 In the event of any changes required in the procedure such changes may be
requested with HOD.

3.0 STANDARD EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR CLEANING

The following Standard equipment required for performing cleaning of rotameter


2.0 Cotton waste
2.1 5% HCL for cleaning rotameter glass.
2.2 Tissue paper.

4.0 TOOLS & TACKLES REQUIRED

3.0 D-Spanners Sets.


3.1 Teflon tape.
5.0 SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL MEASURES/CHECKS
1. Ensure adequate light in the working area.
2. Ensure good housekeeping of the working area.

3. Ensure proper working platform.
4. Ensure the proper usage of insulated general tools
5. Ensure safe procedure while using Bench vise

6.0 PROCEDURE

Isolation Procedure of rotameter from the process:


1. Acquire proper Permit to work copy with signed from authorized personnel (Shift-in
charge).

2. Identify the correct instrument by verifying the Tag Plate on the instrument or by tracing
the process connection.

3. In case of chemical lines, ensure usage of proper PPE, chemical insulated gloves and
glasses.

4. Based on Permit type (Online/Offline) ensure the main Isolation Valve of the Instrument
is isolated, if not intimate the operation personnel (Shift-in Charge) to provide isolation
required.

5. Check If the line is de-pressurized,

6. Loosen the ferrule connector/fitting at the instrument.

7. Check for any high pressure/spray of process due to passing of isolation valve.

8. Ensure that person working with the instrument should not get in contact with process.

9. If no passing, remove the instrument for cleaning by using proper tools.

Normalization of the rotameter after cleaning:


1. Ensure adequate light in the working area.
2. If the instrument is installed in an explosive environment, use a continuous
monitoring gas detector to monitor the presence of gas in the environment.
3. Install the rotameter in process line and tighten it with suitable spanner.
4. Ensure instrument is in isolation condition.
5. Crack open the main isolation valve for any leaks.
6. Full open the main isolation valve.
7. Remove all tools from the working area, ensure the surroundings cleanliness.
8. Close the permit and give clearance for normalization
