MCG initiates 2 – Day Simultaneous Clean-up Drive for UNDAS 2017

The observance of Undas is more than just an honored religious tradition, it also shows that Filipinos
have strong family ties. Undas is the Filipinos' way of celebrating All Saints Day and All Souls Day where
people visit the graves of their departed loved ones in cemeteries.

Prior to this, puntod and lapidas (grave and memorial stone) are swept, polished and repainted. People
also bring flowers and food for the celebration. In between prayers and story-telling, they light candles
beside the memorial stones.

In anticipation of the garbage problems in Mabalacat City following the celebration of All Saints’ Day and
All Souls’ Day, Mayor Crisostomo C. Garbo (MCG) in full cooperation of the Office and Field Personnel of
City ENRO headed by Engr. Jesusa M. Santiago initiated the 2 – Day Simultaneous Clean-up Drive to
reduce the after effect of Undas 2017.
The Clean-up drive was made possible with the participation of Robert Tabacon of Maintenance
Coordinating Group (MCG). Additionally, 8 garbage trucks from barangays Dolores, Atlu-Bola, Poblacion,
Mabiga, Dau, Mangalit, Mawaque and Mamatitang were used during the clean-up operation.
This initiative of MCG of cleaning the after effects of the celebration was appreciated by people of
Mabalacat City in general. They are hoping that this will continue in the following years as to help
maintain the cleanliness of the city.
