Narrative Report on the Celebration of Earth Day 2021

The first-ever Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, which marked the birth of the
modern environmental movement and paved the way to the widely-recognized secular
observance in the world today. Since then, it is celebrated by more than a billion people every
year as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national, and policy
changes.
The event-organizing body, Earth Day Network (EDN), has announced the theme for this
year, “Restore Our Earth”. Scientists, non-governmental organizations, and governments
worldwide are now looking at natural system processes and emerging green technologies to
restore the world’s ecosystems and forests, conserve and rebuild soils, improve farming
practices, restore wildlife populations, and rid the world’s oceans of plastics. Inspired by this and
grounded on one of the Department’s core values, “Maka-Kalikasan,” the DepEd Earth Day
celebration is guided by the theme “PINASiglang Mundo.”
The activities set for the virtual celebration include storytelling, creatives activities, panel
discussions, and the launch of the KalikHasan! Likha at Lakas ng Kabataan para sa Kalikasan,
which is a creative sourcebook on the use of theater for climate education and action. Resource
speakers from the World Wildlife Fund for Nature Philippines, selected student leaders, and
officials, and members of the DepEd Executive Committee will be gracing the event.
The Earth Day Celebration aims to promote environment protection among DepEd
stakeholders, rally more learners and personnel to be engaged to environment actions,
strengthen the makakalikasan core value among learners and provide a platform for learners to
showcase their commitment to Earth restoration.
