Resolved Question:
Hi. I just received a Check Engine Light Code P2404 on my 2007 Mazda 3 sedan. This refers to the following:

EVAP leak detection pump sense circuit malfunction.

Probable cause:

1. Leak detection pump filter plugged.
2. Kinked or plugged EVAP hose.
3. Failed leak detection pump.

Also noted that the last two tanks of gas delivered 3­5 more MPG with no change whatever in driving habits!

I'm not employed and would like to resolve this on my own if possible. Where is this pump located? Will it cause

further damage if not addressed? If its failure increased my gas mileage I'd just as soon not fix it if it won't

the leak detection pump code will not cause any damage or gas milege problems.

it checks the fuel tank for vapor links for emissions. the problem with not fixing it is that if you have
another problem you won't know because the engine light is already on.

If you have your own code reader I supposed you could just continue to clear it as it comes up.

the pump is on the EVAP canister under the rear of the vehicle

Is the pump located with the canister?

Exactly where is the pump located?

Any guess on the cost to repair if the pump is bad?

Regarding the following:

1. Leak detection pump filter plugged.

1. Is the filter able to be inspected or can it be replaced?
2. I should be able to check for this. . .
3. Is there a test to verify the pump is bad?

The pump is above the Evap canister you will need to lift the vehicle remove the shield and pull down the
canister to check the pump and filter.

The filter will also be on a hose going to the pump near the canister.

if you do need to replace the detection pump it will run 130 dollars for the part labor is 2 hrs if you do it at a
shop.
