Critical Reflection on Gender Equality

Gender Inequality has been a problem around the globe for a very long time. Mostly women
suffer with this. After reading the article by UN Women titled “Gender Equality Starts at
Home”. I’ve come to realize how we as a people can change anything we want to change for
example a problem that is affecting a small group of people or a large group, even cities and
countries.

I believe that all problems have a solution. We as a people should just integrate, work
together to discuss all the issues affecting our society or our country. It doesn’t matter if it’s
a personal problem, or a problem that is persistent in our country or the world.

This includes Gender Equality. For the longest time men have been the dominant force in
all aspects of work, especially the work that society thinks that is only applicable for men.
For example being a public servant, a fireman, a pilot, a CEO or COO and etc. The stereotype
that women aren’t allowed to work a job, just because they are women has to stop. Both
men and women are capable of working with the same job either it be specialized of not.

Yes there are jobs out there that only men are capable for example hard labor. But most
jobs men and women are eligible. But just because of this learned stereotype that has been
on going for centuries, women have been having a difficult time.

But the title gender equality is not only for women but also for men. That is why in the
article of UN Women they have stated that Gender Equality starts at home. Yes, I do agree
with this because as young as 3 years old, kids learn stereotypes from their parents or
other people that they observe. It is very important to teach kids at an early age about
equality around men and women. Women are not higher than men and men aren’t higher
than women.

Both genders play a huge role in our society, in our world. Without the men and women of
the world equally working for the betterment of our planet. There will be no earth, there
will be no peace and harmony around us.

That is why we should all teach our kids, our friends, our families, relatives and others that
no gender is higher than the other. We are all made equal by God. We should all respect
each other. Without women there will be no men. Without men there will be no women.
I have learned a lot about the article, and hopefully I will be more vocal, and practice and
spread the actions and knowledge to everyone I encounter in my life. Hopefully if God wills,
with my family also in the future.

This is very important because, just like the articles says that Gender Equality starts at
home. I believe that prevention is better than cure. We know that gender inequality has
been on going for a very decades now. But it is not too late, women have been in the work
force more than ever compare to the past. We should remove this learned stereotypes and
behaviors and spread gender equality all over the world, and most importantly to the next
generation. It not too late for change. We teach now, and the future will be in good hands.
