Technical Specification - 9 -January - 2018

1. Introduction
SQM-Kidman has requested Hatch to supply conceptual and basic engineering services for
the Mt. Holland project. This engineering will be develop for two spodumene concentrate
production scenarios. The first scenario will be for 300,000 tons/year and the second scenario
will be determined during the development of the project.

The Mt. Holland deposit, located in Western Australia, 520 km East of Perth in an area close
to Kalgoorlie (520 km to , contains significant tons of rock with a high content of Lithium in the
form of Petalite and Pegmatite. The spodumene mineral is obtained after primary treatment,
and can be sold directly as concentrate or processed in a chemical plant to obtain Lithium.

Carbonate (Li2CO3) or Lithium Hydroxide (LiOH.H2O). The objective of the Project is to

develop engineering for both a concentrator plant and a conversion plant that will include the
following phases:

• Pre-Feasibility Phase (AACE Class 4): This phase will consolidate the processes and
select the technologies that will be used for both plants.

• Pre-Feasibility Report for Conversion Plant: This phase will produce cost estimate
documentation for two production scenarios.

• Engineering Feasibility Phase (AACE Class 3): This phase will define equipment , sizing ,
and bid documentation for purchase for both plants.

• Feasibility Report: In this phase cost estimate documentation is produced for both plants
with the request for project funding to ensure the project is feasible from a monetary stand
point.

Prior to disassembly and shipping, all parts shall be properly match marked to facilitate
installation. Sub-assemblies preferably shall be as large as transportation and/or erection
facilities shall permit.

Welding procedures shall conform to proper procedure for each part based on good practice
for the materials, thickness, and service loads involved. Operators who have met the
requirements of AWS Standards shall perform the welding.

Supplier shall provide with inspection records, laboratory certificates and any other
documentation deemed by Owner, or Owner’s representative. Such data shall be delivered
from time to time as requested by Owner and shall, in addition, be delivered to Owner as part
of a bound inspection record at the time each completed piece of equipment is delivered ex-
works.

Supplier shall furnish written certification that the equipment has been manufactured in
compliance with the quality assurance program and the requirements of the procurement
documents, all document inside of Manufacture Data Report (MDR Files). Also, it must indicate
us if warranty protocol shall be required, for construction phase, previous to pre-commissioning
phase.

9.2 Shop Assembly

Equipment shall be fully assembled in shop.

In order to minimize site assembly and testing, the equipment shall be modularized, shop
assembled and tested to the fullest extent possible.

9.3 Nondestructive examination

9.3.1 General
All nondestructive tests shall be performed and results interpreted by personnel qualified to
SNT-TC-1A, Level II certification, or equivalent Vendor’s internal standards, as a minimum. The
qualifications of personnel shall be current.

High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR)
Technical Specification - 9 -January - 2018

When ultrasonic examination is specified, it shall be performed in accordance with ASTM

A609/A - 609-M. The examination shall be conducted after heat treatment. Test surfaces of
casting may be as cast, blasted, ground or machined. However, inspection shall be conducted
prior to any machining that would prevent ultrasonic inspection by the creation of an
unfavorable geometric shape.

Data from the final ultrasonic inspection shall be reported as follows:

• The number, location, amplitude and area of all indications equal to or greater than 100%
of the amplitude reference line (ARL).
• Any areas containing one or more discontinuity indications which are associated with
complete loss of back reflection in sections of the casting having parallel walls.
• The test frequency, type of instrument, types of transducers employed, coupling,
manufacturer’s identifying numbers, customer’s Purchase Order number, date and
authorized signature.
The acceptance standard shall be as follows:
• Any discontinuity indication which equals or exceeds 100% of the amplitude reference line
(ARL) continuously over the area specified for level 3 (unless a lower or higher level is
specified on the Purchase Order), shall be considered questionable, subject to repair.
9.3.3 Magnetic particle test
Predetermined stress areas shall be magnetic particle impacted in accordance with ASTM
E709, for dry powder magnetic particle inspection.

When magnetic particle examination is specified, the minimum examination coverage shall
include the following areas unless otherwise indicated:

• 100% of the area at the cut-off portion of all risers.

• 100% flanges to body
• 100% ribs to body
• All corners of cast surfaces
• All other fillet surfaces
Acceptance standards shall be based on ASTM E125 for the following:

Type I Liner Discontinuities (hot tears and cracks) Degree 1

Type II Shrinkage Degree 2

Type III III Inclusions Degree 3

Type IV Internal Chills & Unfused Chaplets Degree 1

Type V Porosity Degree 2

Defects equal to or exceeding quality levels specified must be reported. Minor defects need
not be recorded. Defects equal to or exceeding quality levels specified must be repaired
following procedures which have been approved by Buyer or Buyer's Supplier Quality
Representative.

All welds shall be inspected to the same quality levels as the casting.

Cast steel blanks for gear or forged blanks for pinion and shaft shall be tested according to the
following procedure:

􀁸 Magnetic particle examination shall be by the wet fluorescent method in accordance with
ASTM E-709 modified to use the direct contact technique with direct current source.
Acceptance criteria shall be no cracks, tears or linear shrinkage open to the surface. After
completion of any magnetic particle examination, the examined component shall be
demagnetized if residual magnetism exists.

Visual examination acceptance criteria shall be as follows:

• Castings-no cracks, tears, or linear shrinkage open to the surface.

• Forging - no cracks, laps or burrs.
9.3.4 Pinion and Shaft Examination
Hardness tests shall be performed on the pinions as follows:

• For fully-hardened pinions, hardness tests shall be performed on each semi-finished

forging (0.020 inch maximum stock) using only a Brinell hardness tester.
• Tests shall be made at four places on the outside diameter spaced spiral around the
circumference.
• If the hardness tested exceeds or is less than the specifications, or the range of measured
hardness exceeds 40 points, further measurements shall be required.
The location of any additional hardness tests shall be mutually agreed by the Vendor and the
Buyer or Buyer's Supplier Quality Representative.

Visual examination shall be performed on 100 percent of all surfaces.

9.3.5 Inspection report

Vendor shall have available the following inspections reports for review to the Buyer or Buyer's
Supplier Quality Representative:

• Certificate for material, including chemical composition and mechanical properties.

• Records of ultrasonic examinations of forged and cast steel pieces.

• Records of hardness test.
• Vendor shall follow all other procedures, examinations and tests that are normally carried
out according to standard manufacturing and industry practice.
Vendor shall retain these inspection reports.

All crusher rotating elements and ancillary equipment shall be dimensionally checked upon
completion. All critical dimensions shall be checked including, as a minimum, overall length,
outside diameter, concentricity and squareness of all rotating elements. Buyer or Buyer's
Supplier Quality Representative shall be notified of all dimensional differences from Vendor’s
drawings that could affect Buyer’s foundation or external connection designs.

Any major repairs performed after final thermal stress relief shall require thermal stress relief
at Vendor’s cost. Depths of repair exceeding the lesser of 20 percent of section thickness or
one inch shall be considered major repairs.

Tests and quality controls mentioned above shall conform to a strict Quality Control Program.
Elaboration of this program shall be Vendor’s responsibility.
