Regions of the Philippines

The Philippines is subdivided into seventeen (17) regions – eight (8) in Luzon,


three (3) in the Visayas, and six (6) in Mindanao. These regions are not local
government units but their existence is primarily for administrative purposes. Thus
in each region, a city is designated as the center where each of the national
government agencies have a regional office.

List of Regions

 Region I – Ilocos Region

Region 1 is composed of four provinces, namely: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur,


La Union and Pangasinan. Its regional center is San Fernando City, La
Union.

 Region II – Cagayan Valley

Region 2 is composed of 5 provinces, namely, the valley provinces of


Cagayan and Isabela, the mountain provinces of Quirino and Nueva
Vizcaya, and the island province of Batanes. It has one independent city,
three component cities, 89 municipalities and 2,311 barangays within its 12
congressional districts.

 Region III – Central Luzon

Region 3 is composed of seven (7) provinces, 14 cities, 116 municipalities


and 3, 102 barangays. The provinces are Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva
Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales.
 Region IV-A – CALABARZON

Region 4-A covers 5 provinces, namely, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna,


Quezon, and Rizal, as well as 1 highly urbanized city. The regional center is
the City of Calamba.

 MIMAROPA Region

Region 4B, also known as MIMAROPA, located at the heart of the


archipelago is dubbed as the Treasure Trove of Southern Luzon. The name
is an acronym that stands for its provinces, which are: Mindoro Occidental,
Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.

 Region V – Bicol Region

Region 5, consists of six (6) provinces: Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines


Sur, Sorsogon, and the island-provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate.

 Region VI – Western Visayas

Region 6, consists of six provinces; Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental,


Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo with 16 component cities making it the region
with the highest number of cities.

 Region VII – Central Visayas

Region 7 consists of four provinces – Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and


Siquijor, highly urbanized cities and developing municipalities.
 Region VIII – Eastern Visayas

 Region IX – Zamboanga Peninsula


 Region X – Northern Mindanao
 Region XI – Davao Region
 Region XII – SOCCSKSARGEN
 Region XIII – Caraga
 NCR – National Capital Region
 CAR – Cordillera Administrative Region
 BARMM – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
