First Aid

Matters to be determined having identified the


hazards and assessed the risks at the workplace
are:

 The number and location of first aid boxes and


their contents.
 The number of employees to be trained in first aid
and the level of that training.
 The possible need for a first aid room and the
equipment it should contain.

Special First Aid Training
 LEVEL 1 - BASIC FIRST AID
(emergency first aid procedures).
 LEVEL 2 - WORKPLACE FIRST AID
(Level 1 plus treatment of injuries
and illnesses, e.g. heart attack,
fainting).
 LEVEL 3 - OCCUPATIONAL FIRST
AID - (Level 2 plus broad
understanding of hazards,
emergency care & assessment).

Employee Training

 Location of first aid boxes / rooms


 Names, location, contact numbers of first aiders
 First aid procedures
 Antidotes
 Universal precautions

Number Of First Aiders Required
General Guide

A) Workplace with low risk hazards ( e.g. Office )


– less than 20 workers- 1 FA
– 21-150 workers - 2 FA
– more than 150 - 2 FA for every 150 workers or
part thereof.

B) Workplaces with high risk hazards ( eg.


Chemical plant, shipyards, construction )
– Less than 20 workers - 1 FA
– 20 or more workers - 1 FA for every 20
