Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
It is hard to believe it is already March and we are
beginning our final term at school! We would like to
thank you for your on-going support at home.
This month we are o for a week for March Break
and hope this break gives you the chance to enjoy
and give thanks for all of your many blessings.

Math
We con nue to work on our sense of numbers and
place value and on our adding and subtrac ng strategies
and applying them to solve problems.
Our next focus in class will be on Financial Literacy and format, using information from the text and our
we will be working with money. Students need to
iden fy different ways of represen ng the same amount
of money up to Canadian 200¢ using various
combina ons of coins (example: show 155 cents two
different ways), and up to $200 using various
combina ons of $1 and $2 coins and $5, $10, $20, $50,
and $100 bills.
You can help your child at home by coun ng coins and
bills. Monopoly money is a great way to add bill
amounts. Give your child a handful of coins and ask
them to make a certain amount using different coins
each me. Ask them what strategies they used to count
their coins.
Working with money is also a great opportunity to
prac se skip coun ng and the concept of adding 10
more with quarters and dimes.

Last month marked the beginning of Lent. Lent is a
me to prepare for the

Lent is also a me of

opportunity to take me in
our busy lives to think
about our rela onship
with God. In class our focus will be on learning about
Lent and how we can prepare ourselves for Easter.
Language
Reading: In class we are working on answering
questions about a text in proper sentence
own ideas in our answers.
Writing: We continue to learn about and read
di erent fairy tales and are using what we have
learned to write our own versions of familiar
fairy tales.

Science
We have started our unit on Movement –
Understanding Structures and Mechanisms.
Students will learn about the basic nature of
movement as a change in position of an object.
They will investigate the six basic types of
simple machines (lever; inclined plane; pulley;
wheel and axle; screw; wedge), and describe
ways in which each type of simple machine is
used in daily life to make tasks easier.
