Math
Our next focus in class is on Measurement.
Through Number Talks in class, we have been sharing strategies to add one and 2 digit
numbers. In class we continue to describe numbers using place value (tens and ones)
to help us with our strategies. Your child should recognize that the number 124 is 100,
20 and 4 (that the 1 represents 1 hundred, the 2 represents 2 tens or 20 and the 4
represents 4 ones).
In order to help with addition and subtraction and problem solving in class, it is
important that children commit their basic facts (up to 20) to memory.
Make it fun! Play some math games - roll dice or flip over playing cards and add the
numbers together. Compare numbers - use words like how many more, how many less.
