Vacancy reference:

Post Title: Library Security Patroller

Grade: Grade 3

School/Department: Campus Services, Security Services

Reports to: Security Services Day Shift Supervisor

Responsible for: None

Purpose
To ensure the provision of a safe environment for students overnight and to maintain the physical security
of the University Library and equipment.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Provide a visible Security presence patrolling internally and manning the reception desk.

• Manage access of the building to visitors using campus card security only

• Enforce library regulations and report any issues to security control

• If possible provide help and assistance to students who request it

• Manage evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency

• Operation and utilization of alarm systems as directed by Security Control or as necessary

• Co-ordinate First Aid assistance as required and complete any necessary paperwork

• Receive and manage any found property handed in out of hours.

• Report any health and safety or maintenance issues to security control and manage as appropriate.

• Carry out any reasonable overtime as operationally necessary

General

• To be polite, professional and courteous to all customers in all communication.

• To promote the University Security Service and to do everything possible to enhance the University’s
image through appearance and behaviour, ensuring that duties are carried out in smart uniform and
in a timely fashion.
• The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties which may reasonably be required
as and within the nature of the duties and responsibilities of the post as defined, subject to the
proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the Job
Description in specific terms.

Supervision received
The post holder reports to the Security Services Day shift Supervisor for supervision or general guidance
though may receive direct instruction from the Deputy Security services manager.

The hours of the post are from 00:00 (start) to 08:00 (finish), 20/30 weeks per annum. It is a requirement to
wear the uniform provided at all times when at work.
