When I arrived at my internship on Monday, I was told it would be a slow week since we
did not have interviews scheduled or anyone pending for an interview. Since that was the case,
we would have to find stuff around the office to keep us busy. In the morning, we watched an
interview from last year about a woman with a disability. They usually do not interview adult
women, but since she had a disability, we were able to. Her story was good to watch since she
was a college student in the area. Her story was that she was kidnapped by a guy while walking
down the street, returning to her apartment since she did not have a car. She mentioned that the
vehicle stopped her and he asked if she needed a ride back to her place, and since she was tired,
her first reaction was yes. After she got in the car, she realized she was not going to her home.
She noticed he was taking her somewhere private. He then started doing sexual stuff to her
without her permission and then left her. She thought she had done the wrong thing, and
everyone would be mad at her, but it was the guy's fault for doing that. Listening to this made me
realize that this incident does happen and that I should be more aware of my surroundings. After
watching the interview, I worked on finishing my Handshake account and looked at some job
opportunities. After looking at job opportunities, I talked to the other interns until it was time to
On Tuesday, when I arrived in the afternoon, I was told two people were switching
offices. They were changing because our counselor, Antoinette, needed more office space;
therefore, she was taking over our conference room, and Shelley, our child advocate, was going
to take over Antoinette's tiny office in the back. That meant that us interns were going to take
over what was Shelley's office and now the new conference room. I like this room better because

it is more open, and we can watch the front door while sitting here. Since all this was happening,
I helped them move tables, chairs, and stuff to their new rooms. While we were moving things
around, we did have a little girl and her mom come in for counseling so we had to take a break.
The counseling appointments only took an hour, so we could get some more stuff done. Some of
their items were heavy, but it was okay because it gave me something to do. When we finally
finished cleaning and moving the big heavy stuff, such as the tables and chairs to their offices, it
was time to close for the day. Moving and cleaning offices made the time go by fast, which was
a plus. Doing all this did not teach me much, but it made me feel good to be able to help and
showed that you never know what work you may be asked to do.
Wednesday was slow because no one came in for appointments, and some of our staff
only came in for the afternoon. In the morning, I helped move Shelley's items into the hallway
closer to her new office. After we moved everything, we had little to do; therefore, I worked on
my discussion post and commented to 3 people. After lunch, I worked outside on my computer
for about 30 minutes to get fresh air and feel how warm it was. The office is usually cold, and I
have to keep a jacket on so it was nice to be outside for a little while. When I came back inside, I
felt the need to be productive. With that being the case, I started typing my journal for the week
to get a head start. After I typed Monday and Tuesday of my journal, I spent some time looking
through the training binder and made some notes on what could be updated.
Thursday and Friday were also slow days since we had no appointments. There was not
much that I could do around the office besides cleaning and answering phones. I was on phone
duty both days and had a few phone calls to answer. Most of the phone calls were calls that I had
to leave a message for since whoever they called for was out of the office or busy at the time. I
like being on phone duty now because the office we moved to has a desk we use as the phone

desk. One of the calls I received mentioned that someone called them from our office but did not
leave a message. I told them to hold on for a minute while I checked who called, and then they
hung up the phone. I guess they did not want to be put on hold for a few minutes. Besides being
on phone duty, all I did on Thursday was to help hang up some decorations around the hallway
in the office. Since this week was a slow week, I was able to catch up on some of my class work,
along with work on my discussion post and journal for the week. I did not learn anything new
this week except getting more comfortable answering the phone. Although, I was able to help
around the office with different tasks that came up while we were moving things around. I hope
in future weeks, I will get to learn something new and be able to have a few more tasks.
