that I’ll be showing. And also the number of beats of each note and
rest.

Time signature is a fraction-like number written at the beginning of


the staff after the clef.

D. Discussing new concepts and The time signature is the basis used to properly

form a time signature.

There are different types of time signatures that can


be used in many different styles of music. Simple
time signatures include 2/4, ¾, and 4/4 time
signatures.

There are two numbers found in each time


signature that are used as a basis to group notes and
rests. The top number indicates how many beats
each measure has. Meanwhile, the bottom number
tells which note will represent one beat.

The 2/4 time signature is commonly used in march music. In this


time signature, each measure has only two beats and the quarter
note receives one count. The accent on this time signature can be
found and felt on the first beat.

EXAMPLE:
 There are two beats in each measure.

The ¾ time signature has three beats per measure and the
quarter note receives one count. This type of time signature is
commonly used in waltzes. Its accent is on the first beat while the
second and third beats are unstressed.

The 4/4 time signature is often used in compositions. In this


time signature, the accent is on the first beat of each measure.

conduct patterns in relation with the simple time signature.
