THESIS SYNOPSIS

CITY CENTER

1. INTRODUCTION
City centre is the area of a city where commerce, Entertainment, Shopping and Political power are concentrated,
Urban city centers have combined both the shopping, leaming and Recreational activities with entertainment to offer
an overall experience to the visitors

Lifestle centers are also defined as a "Multi-purpose leisure - time destination".

2. NEED

A city center is a vital part of any urban area. It serves as a central hub for commercial, cultural, and recreational
activities. It provides a place for people to meet, shop, and socialize. It is also a place where people can access
services such as healthcare, education, and entertainment. City centers can be a major source of employment and
economic growth, as well as a boost to the local economy. They can also be a place for people to come together to
celebrate events, commemorate special occasions, and host festivals and other events. City centers are essential for
the overall well-being of an urban area and its citizens.

3. AIM
• To create a space which can form the node for holding and experiencing commercial, cultural and social activities.

• It is in a way a hybrid between a Convention centre or a Cultural hub and a

Commercial centres at a much reduced scale.

4. OBJECTIVE
 The objective behind the project is to understand the importance and design a Future proof city centre that is a
commercial cultural and often a historical, polifical and geographical heart of the city.
 To create a city cenfre providing an iconic image and a landmark to the city.
 To take into account site considerations and climatic conditions.
 To develop a greater understanding of inter relationship of variety of spaces, various characters public,
semipublic, private, entertainment centre, commercial, administrative etc

5. SCOPE

The scope of the City Center project includes the design and construction of a mixed-use development that includes
commercial, retail, residential, and recreational spaces. The development will be located in the heart of downtown, and
will serve as a hub for business, entertainment, and community activities. The project will feature modern, sustainable
design elements and technologies, and will be designed to promote walkability and public transportation. The project
will also include public amenities such as parks and plazas, and will strive to be an economic driver for the area.
6. LIMITATIONS
 1. Limited Space: City centers are often densely populated, making it difficult to find enough space for
businesses, residences, and other amenities.
 2. High Cost of Living: City centers tend to be more expensive than suburban and rural areas due to their
popularity and limited space.
 3. Traffic Congestion: City centers often experience high levels of traffic congestion, making it difficult to get
around.
 4. Poor Air Quality: City centers tend to have higher levels of air pollution due to the concentration of traffic and
industry.
 5. Crime Rates: City centers often have higher rates of crime than other areas due to the high concentration of
people in a small area.
7. PROJECT FEASIBILITY

The feasibility of a city center largely depends on the size of the city, its population, economic resources, and
geographic location. Factors such as transportation infrastructure, public safety, and access to services can also
influence the feasibility of a city center. In addition, the cost of constructing and maintaining a city center must be
considered in order to determine its overall feasibility.

A city center is necessary in order to provide an area where people can live, work, shop, and enjoy entertainment. It is
important for a city to have a central area that can host a variety of activities, as it helps to create a sense of
community, and it can also draw in visitors and tourists. A city center may include cultural attractions, shopping,
entertainment, dining, and other amenities. It is important for a city to have a vibrant city center that is well-
connected to other parts of the city, as this will help promote economic development and create jobs.

8.2 SITE FEASIBILITY

Vijaynagarindore as a city center for indore is that it is one of the modern and Commercial /Recreational hub of
indore and has a great impact to cater the public of the city at its center. The core elements of the site was
studied through the existing transit route to get the active zones of the site which could help in framing the
requirements such as street vending, street markets, hotel, recreationa public garden, shopping complex, urban
plaza, cultural hub, office complex.

10.1 LITERATURE CASE STUDY

10.1.1 Anzal Plaza Delhi,India

Ansal Plaza, Delhi is the oldest major shopping mall of Delhi as well as the third oldest in India. It was
opened on 1 November 1999 with the launch of Shoppers Stop in Delhi (its first branch to be part of
a mall, now Decathlon Khel Gaon).The mall was established by Ansal Properties & Infrastructure
Ltd.It is located at Andrews Ganj on Khel Gaon Marg, in South Delhi and has a gross leasable area of
178,000 sq ft (16,500 m2).The mall has an amphitheatre enclaved within the circular shaped plaza.It
has parking facilities for 1000 cars.After the success of Ansal Plaza, Delhi, AIMS Ansals opened many
more malls in several places of India.

10.1.2 Select CITYWALK ,Delhi


Select CITYWALK is a shopping centre located in the Saket District Centre (Sector-6, Pushp Vihar), in Saket,
New Delhi. The mall has a built-up area of 1,300,000 sq ft (120,000 m 2),with 600,000 sq ft (56,000 m2) of
retail space.The mall is spread over 6 acres (24,000 m 2) and includes a 4 km long multiplex, serviced
apartments, offices and public spaces. The mall was developed by Select Infrastructure, a joint venture
between the Select group and the Aarone Group. It was opened to the public in October 2007.

10.2 LIVE CASE STUDY

10.2.1 Amanora Park Town,Pune

Amanora Park Town is a residential township project based in Hadapsar, Pune. The project is
developed by the City Corporation Limited.The township project comes under the Government of
Maharashtra's special township policy.Amanora Chambers, a juncture for multiple start-ups and
offices, is a part of Amanora township.

10.2.2 DLF Cyber City Gurugram, Haryana, India,

DLF Cyber City is a corporate park in Gurugram, Haryana, India, which was opened in 2003. The area is home
to several top IT and Fortune 500 company offices.The area has been termed a "futuristic commercial hub"
and is considered one of the largest hubs of IT activity in Delhi NCR. Cyber City lies near Udyog Vihar, which
is a conventional industrial area on the opposite side of NH-48.
Cyber Hub is a large shopping and eating area with a number of leading restaurants and shops, which caters
primarily to the people working in DLF Cyber City.
