Women Leaders -
1969 Movement

- The Telangana Movement of


1969 saw the participation of
both men and women in
equal measure.

- Many female leaders


assumed leadership roles in
the movement.
Smt. T.S. Sada Lakshmi
(1928-2004)
- Smt. Sada Lakshmi, a resident of
Hyderabad, was the First Dalit Woman
Legislator from Telangana.

- She represented the Peddapalli,


Kamareddy, and Yellareddy constituencies in
the assembly.

- She worked as Deputy Speaker during the


Damodaram Sanjivayya government in 1960
and as Minister of Endowments in the Neelam
Sanjiva Reddy government in the year 1962.

- She grew up as a prominent leader in the


Telangana Praja Samiti and played a crucial
role in the Telangana Movement.

- An essay named " I will make Telangana


state a Doll House", penned by Sada
Lakshmi, became very famous.
Sangam Laxmi Bai (1911-1979)
- Sangam Laxman Bai was born in Ghatkesar.

- The original name of Laxmi Bai was


Satyawathi.

- She got married at the age of 9 and lost her


husband at a very young age.

- She received her education from the


Shantiketan founded by Unnava
Lakshmi Narayana and Poona Women's
University founded by D.K. Karwe.

- She participated in the Civil Disobedience


movement, launched by Gandhi
against British rule, along with Durgabai
Deshmukh, and went to prison.

- She has written a book named "Jail-My


Experiences and Memories."
- She worked as Education Minister
between 1954 and 1956 in the
Burgula Ramakrishnarao
government.

- She represented the Medak Lok


Sabha constituency between 1957
and 1971.

- She was regarded as the first


woman to be elected to the Lok
Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.

- She established an organization


named "Indiraseva Sadan" and did
social service.
Masuma Begum (1901-1990)

- Masuma Begum, who actively


participated in the Telangana
Movement, served as Minister of
Social Welfare in the Damodaram
Sanjivayya government.

- She is regarded as the first Muslim


woman to hold the office of Minister.

- She served many orphans by


establishing an organization named
"Anjuman- e-Khawateen".

- She worked as the president of the


All-India Women's Conference. The
Government of India honored her with
the Padmasri in 1974.
Kumudini Nayak

- She was the daughter of veteran


leader of Telangana, Pingali
Venkatramireddy.

- She was elected as first woman


mayor of the Hyderabad
Municipal Corporation in 1962.

- She represented the


Wanaparthy constituency from
1962 to 1972.

- She led the Satyagraha, which


was organized as part of the
Telangana Movement.
Eshwari Bai (1918-1991)

- She is Dalit leader of Republic


Party of India.

- She got elected as MLA from


the Yellareddy constituency in
the 1967.

- She participated actively in the


Telangana Movement.

- Dr. Geetha Reddy, daughter of


Eshwari Bai worked as Minister
in Government of Andhra
Pradesh.
Kanaka Ratnamma

She was legislator and led


Telangana Movement in the
Warangal.

Lakshmikantamma
- Lakshmikantamma, a
legislator from Khammam, had
argued that nobody was
desirous of Telangana and
stood for United Statehood.

- She was a follower of the

– Reasons for Failure

- The Telangana movement of
