New information about the team

• SAE Competition;

SAE Competition

• Last encounter, it was talked about the Helibras experimental competition


that happened in 2015.

• Next year, SAE Brasil (Society of Automotive Engineers Brazil) will organize the
helidesign competition, but this competition will not allow undergraduate
students for now.

• When the team was founded, some members looked for other competitions
related to rotorcraft and it was found the AHS Student Design Competition.

• When the team found the AHS Student Design Competition, the team
preferred to organize itself for the helidesign competition that could be
realized in Brazil.

AHS Student Design Competition

• The AHS International (American Helicopter Society International), every year,


promote the Student Design Competition that challenges students to design a
vertical lift aircraft that meets specified requirements, provides a practical
exercise for engineering students at colleges around the world and promotes
student interest in vertical flight technology.

Some rules of the competition

• All undergratuated and gratuated students from any school (university or


college) may participate in this competition, regerdless of nationality.

• The maximum number of students on a team from a single school is tem (10);
the minimum team size is one (1), na individual. Schools may form more than
one team, and each team may submit a proposal, but each term is limited to a
maximum of tem students. A student may be a member of one team only.

• Regardless of the nationality of the teams, all submittals and communications


to and from AHS International will be in english.

Categories and Classifications

• The competition has three categories that are eligible for prizes, as well as a
bônus category. They are:

• Undergratuate Student Category (1st, 2nd, 3rd)

• Graduate Student Category (1st, 2nd, 3rd)

• New Entrant – A new entrant is defined as nay school (undergratuate or


graduate) that has not participated in any of the last three prior competitions.
Teams are eligible to win na award in the undergraduate or graduate student
category AND as a new entrant.

What changes in the team

• One of the rules of the competition is the maximum number of students in


each team, limited only by 10 students. Our team has 19 members. It was
decided by the team, to divide the students into 2 groups.

• Each group of students will make your own project but the whole team will
keep working together to study, to develop methods, to exchange experiences
and promote the team.

sponsors that changes every year, in
the next year the sponsor will be the
Sikorsky Aircraft. The next table shows
some of the future and last sponsors.

SolidWorks

• The activities in the software SolidWorks, planned by the team, to develop the
pieces of the helicopter T-Rex 450 for the competition had to be changed.

• The team decided the activities should continue, but now the only objective of
the activity is to help other members of the team to learn how to draw objects
using the software.
