GIVING INFORMATION REGARDING VARIOUS
TECHNOLOGIES AVAILABLE, THEIR IMPORTANCE
THEIR EFFECTIVENESS
While surveying both the villages, we noticed that most of the rural peoples were
using traditional farming technologies which consist of using tractor machines, field cultivators,
seeders & planters, soil cultivators & plow.
By now those traditional technologies are more time consuming & less efficient, our
group has given information for the villagers about the various modern technologies available in
the market for farming & the same is given below.

Modern farms and agricultural operations work far differently than those a few
decades ago, primarily because of advancements in technology, including sensors, devices,
machines, and information technology. Modern technology is driven by continuous
improvements in digital tools and data as well as collaborations among farmers and researchers
across the public and private sectors.
New/modern technologies have changed the concept of farming making it more
profitable, efficient, safer, and simple. As a result, modern farms get significant benefits from
the ever-evolving digital agriculture. These benefits include reduced consumption of water,
nutrients, and fertilizer, reduced negative impact on the surrounding ecosystem, reduced
chemical runoff into local groundwater and rivers, better efficiency, reduced prices, and many
more. Thereby, business becomes cost-effective, smart, and sustainable.

 Modern Technologies Available & Their Importance :

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

1) GIS-Based Agriculture -
Since fields are location-based, GIS software becomes
an incredibly useful tool in terms of precision farming. While
using GIS software, farmers can map current and future
changes in precipitation, temperature, crop yields, plant
health, and so on. It also enables the use of GPS-based
applications in line with smart machinery to optimize fertilizer
and pesticide application.
GIS-based agriculture is the application of satellites and
drones to collect valuable data on vegetation, soil conditions,
weather, and terrain from a bird’s-eye view. Such data
significantly improves the accuracy of decision-making.

2) Data From The Sky-Drones -

With the assistance of drones, farmers have an
opportunity to define crop biomass, plant height, the presence
of weeds, and water saturation on certain field areas with high
precision. They deliver better and more accurate data with
higher resolution in comparison to satellites.
Drones are also considered to be unrivaled aides in the
battle against insects; the invasion is prevented by applying
the insecticide on the hazardous areas using drones, all while
reducing the likelihood of direct exposure leading to chemical
poisoning.
3) Soil and Water Sensors -
Perhaps the equipment having the most immediate
effect are soil and water sensors. These sensors are durable,
unobtrusive, and relatively inexpensive. These sensors can
detect moisture and nitrogen levels, and the farm can use this
information to determine when to water and fertilize rather
than rely on a predetermined schedule. That results in more
efficient use of resources and therefore lowered costs.
It also helps the farm be more environmentally friendly
by conserving water, limiting erosion, and reducing fertilizer
levels in local rivers and lakes.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

4) Crop Sensors –
Crop sensors help apply fertilizers in a very effective
manner, maximizing uptake. They sense how your crop is
feeling and reduce the potential leaching and runoff into
groundwater. Instead of making a prescription fertilizer map
for a field before you go out to apply it, crop sensors tell
application equipment how much to apply in real-time.
Optical sensors can see how much fertilizer a
the plant may need, based on the amount of light reflected by
the sensor.
5) Monitoring and controlling crop
irrigation systems via smartphone –
Mobile technology is playing an important role in
monitoring and controlling crop irrigation systems. With this
modern technology, a farmer can control his irrigation systems
from a phone or computer instead of driving to each field.
Moisture sensors in the ground can communicate
information about the level of moisture present at certain
depths in the soil.
 Effectiveness of Modern Technologies :
Technology is transforming nearly every aspect of our modern lives, and farming is
no exception. If modern agriculture is applied widely shortly, millions of farmers will be able to
benefit from the acquisition of real-time farm information. Farmers no longer have to apply
water, fertilizers, and pesticides uniformly across entire fields. Instead, they can use the
minimum quantities required and target very specific areas, or even treat individual plants
differently. Benefits include:
 Higher crop productivity
 Decreased use of water, fertilizer, and pesticides, which in turn keeps food prices down
 Reduced impact on natural ecosystems
 Less runoff of chemicals into rivers and groundwater
 Increased worker safety

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

GIVING INFORMATION REGARDING MOBILE APPS
& HOW TO USE THEM
While surveying we came to know that majority of the people use the apps related to
farming which are not from the Indian government and most of them have said that they only use
the weather app. So for rural people, our group has given information regarding various apps
available for villagers which are from the Indian government and are purely available in the play
store. The same information is described below.

 Government Mobile Apps :

1) Kisan Suvidha -
This app serves as a common interface for farmers and
agricultural stakeholders providing regular updates on
weather, market prices, etc. It also enables farmers to avail
information on plant protection and advisory from government
officials.
Region-wise climate updates up to five days with added
special features like extreme weather notifications help
farmers a great deal, especially in the post-sowing phase.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

2) Meri Sadak -
The Meri Sadak app allows citizens to lodge complaints
about poor road infrastructure in rural areas. The app uses
GPS and allows people to give appropriate feedback on
broken roads by uploading pictures.
Using Meri Sadak, people can get road-related issues
solved in 60 days.
3) Aarogya Setu -
The Indian government has launched its Aarogya Setu
app as an effort to help people during the COVID-19
pandemic. It connects Indian citizens with essential health-
related information.
In this app, we will get more information about health
risks, best practices to be followed, and different advisories
issued by the government.
4) UMANG –
Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance.
This app brings different government services under one. Be it
a local body service or one offered by the state government,
you can use the app to access the available services.

5) BHIM UPI –
The tagline of this app is – Making India Cashless.
It can be viewed as a digital wallet. You can use this
app to transfer money or receive money from one bank
account to another.
These transactions are not dependent upon the working
hours of the bank, thereby enabling you to initiate transactions
and receive money anytime.
6) DigiLocker –
As the name suggests, this app acts as a digital locker.
You can use it to store your digital documents. DigiLocker is
directed towards minimizing the dependence on physical
documents.
The app can be used to issue and verify documents and
certificates. Once you have stored your digital documents in
the app, you can access them easily via your mobile devices.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

7) mAadhaar -
Nowadays, the Aadhaar Card has become an identity
verification document. With this app, we do not have to carry
our Aadhaar card everywhere with us. The app can be used to
store a digital version or a soft copy of the Aadhaar card,
which can be used for verification.
We can also perform functions like updating your
address or ordering a reprint of your Aadhaar card with the
help of this app.

GIVING INFORMATION REGARDING WEBSITES

RELATED TO GOVERNMENT SCHEMES &
HOW TO USE THEM
While surveying we have noticed that rural peoples don’t know that even these kind
of websites do exist, villagers said us that there are no peoples who inform or gives particular
knowledge about such things.
So in this task, we have tried our best to make sure that rural peoples understand
what are the different kinds of government schemes available & how to apply for them. The
same has been discussed below.

GIVING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT
FRAUD MESSAGES, CALLS &
VIDEOS
While interacting with rural peoples, our group heard that they have encountered a
lot of fraud calls that too in this pandemic time. Regarding fraud messages & fraud videos, they
haven’t known for which we have given information about it & also how to overcome or protect
from such situations. The same is mentioned below.
The common scams are ;
i. Social Security Scams – Scammers pretend to be from Social Security Administration & try to
get your social security number or money.
ii. Phishing Scams – Scammers use email or text messages to trick you into giving them your
personal information.
iii. Unemployment Benefits Scams – Imposters are filing claims for unemployment benefits.

 Spam Text Messages & Phishing :

Scammers send fake text messages to trick you into
giving them your personal information – things like your
password, account number, or Social Security number. If they
get that information, they could gain access to your email, bank,
or other accounts. Or they could sell your information to other
scammers. Scammers also send fake messages that say they
have some information about your account or a transaction.
The messages might ask you to give some personal
information like how much money you make, how much you
owe, or your bank account, credit card, or Social Security
number to claim your gift or pursue the offer. Other messages
may install harmful malware on your phone that steals your
personal information without you realizing it.
Solution ;
There are many ways you can filter unwanted text messages or
stop them before they reach you.
i. Your phone may have an option to filter and block messages
from unknown senders or spam.
ii. Some call-blocking apps also let you block unwanted text.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

 Phone Scams & Phone Phishing (Vishing) :
Vishing or voice phishing is the use of fraudulent phone calls
to trick people into giving money or revealing personal
information. It's a new name for an old problem—telephone scams.
Scammers and fraudsters are trying to take advantage of the
coronavirus pandemic to trick people with messaging that pretends
to be from government or health agencies, hospitals, or insurers.
Scammers or "fishers" often offer exaggerated or fake prizes,
products, or services. They then ask for your credit card number or
other personal information to get you to pay for associated fees or
more.
Solution ;
i. Do not pay fees for prizes or rewards offered by phone.
ii. Do not send money or give out personal information in response
to unsolicited phone calls from unfamiliar companies or persons.

 Fraud Video Calls :

There’s a new scam that involves video calling.
The gang targets only men but women are enlisted to set the
trap. At first, they befriend the men through Facebook chats,
form fake accounts. After texting for a while, the woman who
is a part of the gang, video calls the man and starts stripping
off her clothes, while encouraging him to do the same. The
man follows suits, & has no idea that the call is being
recorded. Then, with their naked video recordings as evidence,
the gang blackmails the victim, threatening to upload their
photos on social media and send them to their friends &
relatives.
Solution ;
i. Lock your social media accounts & don’t accept requests
from unknown. Don’t text or respond to unknown numbers or
answer video calls.
ii. Don’t entertain strangers & exchange information with
them on social media. Don’t follow their instructions & fall
into a trap.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

GIVING INFORMATION ABOUT RTI & SAKAL
 Right To Information (RTI) :
RTI means that any Indian citizen can request any
information (which is supposed to be public knowledge) from
the offices and departments of the state or central
governments.
The objective of this act was to help the citizens avail
themselves of quicker services from the government agencies
since the act enables them to ask questions like why a
particular application or an official proceeding gets delayed.

 SAKALA :
Sakala is a scheme that assures timely delivery of
government services to citizens. In all, Sakala offers 375 services
under various departments which are sought after by the citizens.
In Short, It is an Act to empower the citizens in getting what they
want in the time defined.
Whenever the request for the service is made, the citizen
receives an acknowledgment slip with a unique 15 digit number
called the Guarantee of Services to Citizen (GSC) number. With
the help of the GSC number, a citizen can monitor the status of his
application on the website www.Sakala.kar.nic.in.
This system also has a mobile interface. Citizens can check
the status of their application by sending an SMS from a mobile
phone by typing their 15 digit GSC number. The system will send
a reply back to them with the current status of the application, the
system also sends message updates every time the status of the
application changes. Citizens are encouraged to give their mobile
numbers at the time of registrations so that they can be
automatically intimated about the interim status of their
applications. Hence their visits to offices are reduced.
In case the application is rejected or if the service is not
provided within the stipulated time, citizens can file an appeal
before the competent officer (CO) to redress their grievance
quoting the GSC number.

INFORMING HOW JCET IS RESPONSIBLE
In this final task, we have given information to the village peoples on the
contribution done by JCET and how it’s socially responsible.
This was a proud task for us to do. The information is given as follows.

 Toy Donation for Anganwadis :

Toys are an excellent source of entertainment but also develop various physical
skills in children, when they grasp, crawl, run, balance, and climb, or play with them. It
feels proud saying that from our college side we have donated some toys for Anganwadi
children’s and made them smile which in turn made us happy.

 Collecting Funds & other things during Floods :

At the times of floods in Chennai, our JCET college was stood socially responsible. We
Jain college students have collected clothes, food, funds, etc. for the flood-trapped
peoples and made some kits. Then we sent those kits to the peoples who are really in
need.

 Blood Donation Camp :

Blood Donation Is A Great Act Of Kindness. Blood Donation Costs You Nothing, But It
Can Mean The World To Someone In Need. Donate Blood Because You Never Know
How Helpful It Might Be To Someone. With these slogans, our JCET college conducted
a blood donation camp, where we the students and even lecturers including Principal Sir
have donated their blood on “ World Blood Donor Day ” and once again stood
responsible for creating awareness and showing the responsibility of youngsters.

Activity 3
To assist the marketing of rural produce

Venue:
Kundgol
Date:

22/03/2021 to 31/03/2021

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

Survey of agricultural produce
Kundgol is Located in Dharwad District of Karnataka is about 14 km south-west of Hubli and 32
km south-west of Dharwad. A land of black soil. We visited the farmers of Kundgol and
enquired about the spread of land they owned and the kind of money that was required over the
years to provide a successful outcome.

We asked them about the different seasons of farming and how they grew crops according to the
particular season. They told us how the different types of soil and land restricted them to grow
crops that are suitable to grow only on that particular land. We collected information about how
much produce do they yield, the pesticides & fertilizers used by them, their annual income, their
investment into farming, the profit, the loss, etc.

Information about how to market the produce
We enquired about how they sell their produce
after the yield and whether they had a say
during the selling of their harvest.

We got to know that as soon as the season of

harvest arrived, there would be bidding on
what price the yield has to be sold to the
tender.
One important problem that we discovered
was that the farmers did not have a say in the
price that the crops were sold for. They have
the burden of paying the laborers and payoff
people for their services offered.

The budget that the government has set for the crops is not considered at all and all the money is
taken away by the middlemen itself leaving the farmer in debt or without any profit for the
whole year's work.

Giving information about the rates of produce at

various places
After listening to all that they had to say about how they sold their crops and how they didn’t
have a proper idea about the right prices that have to be given.

We introduced them to a couple of apps on the play store which would provide a solution to their
problems regarding the prices. For example:

The Kisan Suvidha, The Agri Market, The Crop Insurance, etc.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

How to preserve food grains & Information
about the warehouse and cold storage
We asked them how they went about with
their storage system.
Some of them had a small room attached to
their houses which were used as a storage
room

. The others kept the yield in the hall or the

veranda. Few others told us that they
preferred keeping it at the farm itself.

Some would sell off the yield as soon as

harvest and then the middlemen would store
it all together in his warehouse. The reason
why the farmers don't have a warehouse or
cold storage is that either they don’t have
extra spacing or they don't have enough
money to rent a place.

Information about Agriculture tools

We provided the farmers information about the tools like:

The Brush Cutter a tool for effective

agriculture work, used to trim small
trees, harvest crops, cut weeds, and other
foliage.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

The Sprayers are used to prevent crops
from pests.

Seeder used to sow the seeds

mechanically.

The Power Weeder was used to

eliminate weeds in vegetable gardens,
Vineyard plantations, and basins of
orchard trees.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

A Power Tiller is a machine used for
cultivation in farming that includes
weeding, sowing, cultivation, and tillage.

Mowers and trimmers are used to cut and

trim the crops, mainly used for gardening
purposes.

Plough is used for loosening the soil to

plant and sow seeds.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

They showed us some of the tools that they used in their fields.

They told us that that they knew about the new technology but didn’t have enough money to buy
them.

Convey information about products other than

agriculture
During the survey, we asked the farmers if they did anything else besides farming.

Most of them agreed with the fact that

agriculture was their only source of income
and at the most some of them owned cattle.
Some of them had to make huge
investments to buy the land. As for the
others, the land was passed down to them
from their ancestors.

We provided them information about

Alternative Crops and Enterprises for
Small Farm Diversification. For example:
 Feed and Forage

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

 Fiber, Fuel, Edible and Industrial Oils
 Specialty and Ethnic Vegetables
 Fruits and Nuts
 Horticultural/Nursery
 Agroforestry/Forest Products
 Livestock/Animals
 Game Related
 Exotic Livestock
 Poultry
 Aquaculture/Fish farming
 Value-added Products/On-farm Processing

How to increase the yield

The pesticides and manure, used by most of the farmers in
that particular region were the same.

As they had the same soil, climatic conditions, and pests,

they had to deal with similar problems.

Fertilizers:

 Urea
 Green Planet Organic
Pesticides:  Growth Promoter
 DAP 10 26 26
 Alika  Potash
 Confider  Super Phosphate
 Benzo  Liquid Scattering Fertilizer 0.20.20
 Bayer Confider
 Ampligo

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

How to use apps regarding the selling of produce,
contact details, and information about Kisan rail
We told them about the apps that could be useful to them for marketing, getting the right price
for their produce, and information about the new technology and chemical advancement in
agriculture.

For example:

The Pusa Krishi this app provides

information about the different varieties
of crops, the price of those crops, and the
information related to those crops. From
this app, the new technologies which the
IARI (Indian Agricultural Research
Institute) has come up with can be
tapped in.

The Agri Market- this app tells you the

market price of the crops which are grown
and sold within a 50 km radius from the
current location of the user according to
the GPS. If the user is interested to know
the market price of places outside a 50km
radius that too is possible.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

The Crop Insurance- from this app, the
farmers can know the insurance premium
of crops based on location & loan amount.
We can also get the information of
premium and subsidy related to the crops.
They can also get information about the
circular/messages without registering in
the app.

M Kisaan Application- From this app the

farmers and the mediators can get
information from agriculture experts.

The Kisan Suvidha app where the farmers

get information about the weather,
dealers, market prices, expert advice
about agriculture (one on one
interaction), and plant protection.

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

We also told them about app used for money transfer, paying off bills and online payments, etc.
Example: Bhim UPI, G pay, Phone pe, Net banking, etc

About JCET achievements

JCET besides having its academic achievements has played a
vital part by socially having an impact. They also have a
partnership with LEAD Deshpande Foundations through
which many students have been able to be a part of
transforming lives.

So we told the farmers about the activities that have been

taken place in the past 2 years.

Some of the activities done by our students are :

 Blood Donation
 Tieing of rakhi to covid patients on the occasion of
Raksha Bandhan

DEPT. OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING, JCET,

 Plant Marketing
 Distribution of certificates to all the
women who have changed our lives on the
occasion of International Women's Day
 Pravaha Parihara
 Charity event in the college for a
