“A Comparative Study on the Perceived

Factors that Affect the Decision of
POL221 and POL222 of NU-Manila
Political Science Students in Pursuing
Juris Doctor.”
Deciding whether to pursue a Juris Doctor after an
undergraduate or pre-law course comes with corresponding
factors. More often than not, these factors are what make
pre-law students have second thoughts about proceeding
to graduate studies and studying the law.

▪ Background of the Study

To know the underlying factors that affect the decision
of NU–Manila Political Science Students to pursue Juris
Doctor and see if there is a significant relationship between
these factors and their decisions.

▪ Objectives of the Study

▪ Significance of the Study

This study shall assist and help pre-law

students in listing and evaluating underlying and
most common factors affecting their decisions,
which will serve as a preparation for them if they are
having second thoughts and want to know whether
the path is right for them.
There is a significant difference between
POL221 and POL222 that each factor influences
the decision of NU-Manila Political Science
Students in going to Law School to pursue Juris
Doctor at 0.05 level of significance.

▪ Hypothesis
▪ Data and Results
The researchers were able to gather
▪ Pre-Survey a total of 40 responses on the pre-
survey. Among these responses, 23
responded YES indicating that they
are sure of going to law school and
pursuing a Juris Doctor degree. While
5 and 12 responded NO and
UNDECIDED, respectively. With the
data gathered, those who answered
NO and UNDECIDED are our
respondents for this study which
comprises a total of 17.

The total number of the gathered
main respondents comprise of
POL221 and POL222.

The first perceived factor is the Financial Constraint.
The 17 respondents comprising POL221 and POL222
rated if this factor has something to do with their ▪ Analysis of the Result
decision in pursuing a Juris Doctor degree. The
researchers want to compare if both section has the

same or different perception towards the first
perceived factor.

In POL221, shown in the data results that 37 percent answered Agree, Strongly Agree and
Neutral both got 25 percent of POL221, and 13 percent said Strongly Disagree. The total
mean of POL221 is 3.63 which indicates that most of them AGREE that Financial Constraint
has an effect to their decision in pursuing Juris Doctor.

Meanwhile, 45 percent of POL222 answered Neutral, 33 percent Agree, and 11 percent for
both Strongly Agree and Strongly Disagree. The total mean of POL222 on the first factor is
3.44 which means that majority of them are NEUTRAL that Financial Constraint also has an
effect to their decision in pursuing Juris Doctor.
Hypothesis Testing

I. Financial Constraint

Since p(T<=t) = 0.75 which is greater

than a=0.05, do not reject Ho. Conclude
that there is no significant difference
between POL221 and POL222 that
Financial Constraint influences the
decision of NU-Manila Political Science
Students in going to Law School to
pursue Juris Doctor at 0.05 level of

decision in pursuing a Juris Doctor degree. The
researchers want to compare if both section has the
same or different perception towards the first V. Law School Is Hard
perceived factor.

50 percent answered Strongly Agree as shown in the data, 38 percent for Neutral, and 12
percent for Agree. Total mean is at 4.13 which designates that POL221 AGREE that law

Hypothesis Testing

V. Law School is hard

Since p(T<=t) = 0.07 which is greater

than a=0.05, do not reject Ho.
Conclude that there is no significant
difference between POL221 and
POL222 that Law School Is Hard
influences the decision of NU-Manila
Political Science Students in going to
Law School to pursue Juris Doctor at
0.05 level of significance.
Studying the law should be motivated by more than just a desire to be a professional and all the
fancy perks that come with it. One should consider many factors to assess whether law school is for them
because the difficulty goes beyond studying the law itself but also the means and needs to stay.

The researchers aim to know the underlying factors that affect the decision of NU-Manila
Political Science Students to pursue a Juris Doctor and see if there is a significant difference among pre-
law students with these factors. The researchers investigated whether these factors are being experienced
by pre-law students or not. The researchers hypothesize that there is a significant difference between
POL221 and POL222 of NU-Manila Political Science Students that each factor influences their decision to
go to Law School to pursue a Juris Doctor.

After all the procedures, this study concludes that it is the same among pre-law students based
on the data results and hypothesis testing. There is no significant difference between POL221 and POL222
of NU-Manila Political Science Students that each factor influences their decision to go to Law School to
pursue a Juris Doctor. This only means that we can affirm that these factors indeed have effect on their
decision.
