Abrasive Blasting (Grit Blasting):

Abrasive blasting (commonly known as Grit blasting) is a surface preparation technique for paint, coatings and
restoration. Abrasive blast equipment uses compressed air to entrain and accelerate the media through a blast hose. As the
abrasive media exits the blast nozzle and impacts the target, it removes residue, rust and scale and etches the surface as the
result of the high kinetic energy, hardness (Mohs hardness scale), and mesh size of the media.
The adhesion and lifetime of the coating relies on the surface cleanliness and anchor pattern. The anchor pattern (surface
profile) is the profile depth of the surface and depends on the blasting pressure and the hardness, composition, hardiness,
shape, and mesh size of the abrasive media. We have professional in house painting crews that are company trained and
highly experienced in all phases of Industrial Painting.
Hydro blasting
Hydro blasting (water blasting) is a productive and cost effective cleaning and surface
preparation technique that uses high pressure water to remove surface residue, debris,
oxidation, and scale deposits. Hydro blasting equipment pressurizes and accelerates water
through a blast hose. As the high pressure water exits the blast nozzle at high velocity, it
impacts the target and cleans residue and debris from the surface.
The terms hydro blasting, water blasting, water jetting, and hydro jetting are essentially the
same and are commonly confused with water washing and pressure washing. The
following table clarifies the differences between the methods
2.6 Hydro jetting Cleaning
Hydro jetting is a productive and cost effective cleaning technique that uses high pressure water
and specialized cleaning nozzles to remove surface residue, debris, oxidation, and scale
deposits.
We uses high pressure (10,000 psi) water jetting equipment to clean blocked piping and tubing.
We clean piping from 1 to 48 inches in diameter.
Routine cleaning reduces plant downtime and minimizes the use of chemicals and solvents for
pipe and tube cleaning

Encircling Sleeve
1. Type A Sleeves (Reinforcing)

This type of Sleeve is not is used only for non-leaking

defects installed on a pipeline without welding

2. (Type B Sleeves) Pressure Containing or Capable of Containing Pressure

The other type of steel sleeve used to make pipeline

repairs is known as a Type B sleeve. The ends of a Type
B sleeve are fillet welded to the carrier pipe.
2.4 Defect Repair Using Composite Reinforcement Sleeves

Composite materials have been used in aerospace structural applications for many years. In recent years, composite sleeves
have been developed and used for the repair of non-leaking pipeline defects. The various composite sleeves are proprietary
products produced by specific vendors. The rigid materials are limited to relatively straight sections of pipe much as steel sleeves.
The flexible materials can be applied to bends, elbows, and tees.
The advantages of composite reinforcements compared with steel sleeves are easier handling of the materials, lower skill
requirements for installation personnel, more rapid installation, and lower overall cost.
2.5 Mechanical Clamps
1. Bolt-On Clamps
Several types of mechanical
clamps are available from
various commercial vendors.
Figure 24 shows a photograph
of a typical bolt-on clamp.

2. Leak Clamps

A leak clamp is used to repair a leaking

external corrosion pit. It consists of
relatively lightweight metal bands with a
single draw bolt to tighten it onto the pipe.
Figure shows a typical leak clamp. The
clamp has a threaded fitting located 180
degrees from the draw bolt.

HEAVY LIFTING CAPABILITIES

INTRODUCTION :
ALQ AL-ABRAJ involvement in heavy lifts and haulage started in the early 1990’s. Following the high international standard in safety and performance, the
Central Rigging Department was established in Al Diwaniyah /Iraq, in 1990 as part of AAC’s continuous commitment to safety and quality and to cater for
the entire rigging and heavy lift requirement for projects globally.

2. CENTRAL RIGGING DEPARTMENT :

Central Rigging Department (CRD) consists of a team of qualified specialists, mechanical engineers and CAD draftsmen and is equipped with the latest
CAD, rigging and planning software. The organization chart enclosed under Attachment 1 identifies the structure of the Central Rigging Department
team. This document will describe the work process carried out by CRD and will highlight AACs achievements in heavy lifting , process The Central Rigging
Department’s (CRD) scope of work commences from the planning stage to the execution stage with safety always being the main concern Following is a
description of the work.

3. ENGINEERING & PLANNING STAGE :

Work on the projects starts directly upon award where a full constructability plan showing cranes proposed, routing, erection position, hold ups, delivery
position of heavy lifts, dress up requirement prior to erection, is prepared and reviewed with the client for comments and recommendations. Detailing
starts upon receipt of vendor drawings for equipment. Daily follow up is done on heavy lifts 20 tons and above to make sure that the trunnions, lifting lugs,
tailing lugs dimensions and orientations are checked and are as per our input and recommendations prior to starting of fabrication. The CRD provides lift
plans, which describe the foundations, structures, or other items to allow the safe and efficient placement and operation of cranes, and erection of
heavy lift items. Detailed lift plans are prepared for equipment of 20 tons and above, usually, and as per the client requirements. These lift plans show the
coordinates for the center line of main crane and tail crane, detailed rigging tackle to be used, boom clearance, hold ups,
Ground bearing pressure during lifting, special precautions, cranes lift data and percentage (%) of chart capacity. The lift plan is then submitted to the client with all the relevant
information such as crane charts and valid certificates, operator license and certificates, tackle valid certificates, equipment drawings, lifting and tailing details, and ground bearing
pressure calculation etc. These detailed plans tally with BS, ASME and FEM standards. All lift plans are carried out in accordance with AAC standard’s procedures, which confirm to the
highest international standards. For further information please refer to the sample of rigging studies provided under Attachment 3.

5. EQUIPMENT & MANPOWER EQUIPMENT :

AAC owns and operates a number of cranes ranging from 20 to 600 metric tons capacity.
As of February 2021, the total number of cranes & equipment owned by AAC is 125.
Following is a list of Heavy Lift cranes available within the AAC fleet.
Moreover, investment in new tackle is a continuous activity in AAC. We ensure that all tackle always have appropriate certification and are
inspected prior to any lift. Tackle are preserved in good conditions where cleaning and greasing is done regularly to keep them in proper working
conditions. Lifting and spreader beams are designed by the Central Rigging Department engineers in line with the international ASME and BS
standards and are certified by a third party. A list of heavy lifts (100 MT and above) is enclosed for reference in Typically the following personnel are
engaged for a project:
∗ Rigging Specialist/Superintendent.
∗ Rigging Engineer
∗ Rigging Foremen
∗ Rigging Chargehands
∗ Riggers
∗ Helpers
∗ Technical Clerks
∗ Storekeepers
6. PRE-DRESSING OF VESSEL TOWERS :
Considering that in today’s construction industry projects are to be delivered on a fast-track basis, it is envisaged that the maximum amount of pre-
dressing of vessels/towers, will be carried out prior to erection. This essentially reduces erection time and scaffolding requirements. Pre-dressing is
planned to be carried out at a location as close as possible to the point of erection, depending on the size of the vessel and the amount of activity
in the area. In such a way we eliminate double handling and reduce transportation and erection time.
In the event that this is not possible and if a local location is not available, then a nearby marshalling area will be established and designated for this
work. Pre-dressing activities include the following; insulation / painting, installation of ladders and platforms, installation of overhead lines and
downcomers on their permanent supports, and installation of instrument and electric conduit runs
7. FLARE STACK RIGGING PLAN :
The basic approach adopted by AAC for Flare Stack Rigging Plan is to sub-assemble the stack structure at ground level into acceptable
sections and employ cranes rigged with Main Boom and Luffing Jib to erect to each elevation. The sub-assembled sections will be completed
with all members and riser guides as far as is practicable and in line with the Flare Stack Vendors Erection Procedure. The risers will be installed
by means of the Vendor Supplied Winch System, in accordance with the Vendor Procedure or will be a part of the modules and is such case
will be assembled on the ground.

8. ERECTION PROCEDURES FOR HEAVY EQUIPMENT:

The Erection Procedures for Heavy Equipment is implemented typically through the following steps: Position crane(s) as per Issued for
Construction (IFC) approved rigging study.
∗ Check crane(s) rigging conforms to manufacturers manuals.
∗ Check pick-up & setting radius.
∗ Check crane(s) are level and ensure that timber mats and any other protection necessary are in place.
∗ Check tail crane and/or main cranes travel path is firm, level, evenly compacted, protected and free from obstruction.
∗ Complete pre-lift inspection report and sign off as necessary.
∗ Hold a pre-lift meeting ensuring that all involved personnel are properly informed and understand their relative duties and responsibilities.
∗ Isolate the lift area by means of tiger tape, barriers and other necessary equipment.
∗ Receive the vessel on its transportation into its delivery position as per the IFC approved rigging/transportation study.
∗ Dress the rigging tackle between the crane(s) hooks and the vessels lifting lugs and or trunnions.
∗ Tighten the cranes rigging and remove the transportation lashing then slowly hoist the vessel clear of the transportation platform
and remove transportation equipment from the lift area.
∗ Slowly lower the vessel to the ground and remove transportation saddles taking care not to damage the tail cranes travel path.
∗ Check crane(s) are level and that all necessary clearances are maintained, check any loose materials and ensure no items
remain either on outer shell or in the skirt area.
∗ Slowly hoist the main lift crane with tail crane travelling and lower off maintaining the vessel skirt approximately 20 cm from
ground level until the vessel is vertical and the full weight id transferred to the main lift crane.
∗ Remove the tail cranes rigging tackle from the vessel and travel the tail crane to a safe position.
∗ Slowly slew, hoist and/or boom until the vessels are located over its final foundation bolts.
∗ Orientate the vessel and slowly lower over holding down bolts to final position on its foundation, re-check orientation, fit nuts, line
and level to contractual tolerance.
∗ Release the main lift cranes rigging tackle from the vessel and demobilize the cranes.

In addition to the steps identified above, upon delivery of the vessel, the orientations and dimensions of lifting lugs/ trunnion and
tailing lugs are confirmed. The clearances, fouling of nozzles, cleats are also reconfirmed prior to start of erection activities.
9. TYPICAL HAULING PROCEDURE :
The Hauling Procedure typically entails that the following steps are to be followed:
∗ Mobilize the transport equipment to port of discharge and configure hydraulic trailer fitting turn-tables and/or transportation
beams to conform to IFC Transport Arrangement Drawing.
∗ Receive the Heavy Lift item from the ships hook onto hydraulic trailer(s), fit tiedown lashing and release/remove ships rigging
gear.
∗ For Direct Delivery from Port of Discharge to Site, carry out the following checks:
• Carry out all necessary equipment and cargo safety checks.
• Ensure the route is clearly understood by the transport crew and necessary escort cars are in attendance.
• Re-check that any diversions have been dealt with.
• Ensure all concerned Government and or Local Authorities route and escort permissions and support documentation is in
place.
• After all checks are completed and signed off, the transport can then proceed to site.
∗ For clearing a Heavy Lift ship in a timely manner, the following steps need to be carried out:
• Pre set load spreading and support stillage in the agreed lay down area within the port of receipt.
• Receive the Heavy Lifts onto hydraulic trailers from the ships hook and transport to the lay down area, offloading by
means of hydraulic trailers onto the lay down Area.
• Re-load for site transportation and carry out all checks as described in above prior to proceeding to site.
∗ Route to Site:
• To be agreed and determined in coordination with Port Authorities and with any other concerned party from whom
Routing Permission is required.
• Discharge at Site
• Transport will be positioned as per IFC Rigging/Transport study and discharged as described in Section 4 “Heavy Lift
Erection Procedures” of this document.
10. SAFETY AND SECURITY :
All lifting equipment and rigging tackle will be inspected by an experienced and qualified Rigging Supervisor prior to use.
All AAC owned cranes will be fitted with a Safe Load Indicator and AntiTwo Block devices, all maintained in good
working order together with current Third Party test certification. All Rigging Tackle and Transport Lashing material will be
of international acceptable standard with current Third Party test certification and subject to regular on site inspection
and maintenance. All lifting operations will be under the control of the appointed Rigging Specialist.
