Today, we will be discussing about “Propaganda

Techniques”.

*Propaganda
- is a set of strategies designed to persuade someone
to believe in an idea, support a cause, or buy a
product.

-is designed to influence or manipulate people.
-may contain hidden messages.

Yes Sir
*Types of Propaganda

1.Bandwagon – this technique encourages you to

“jump on board” or take part in something because
everyone else is doing too.

2.Name Calling – this technique consists in giving a

bad name to a person, a group, an idea or an event.
The name given arouses an emotional attitude of
hostility and rejection.

3.Testimonial – this technique involves having a

celebrity or other respectable person to endorse a
product, person, or cause.
Yes, Sir!

(Students raise their hands)

4.Glittering Generality – this technique uses empty
words or words that just sound good to make a
person, product, or cause sound good. (Student’s answers may vary)

(Students raise their hands)

5.Plain Folks - this device is used extensively by

politicians. The politician declares that he is just like
others, with their common virtues and vices. Thus, a
leader may embrace a child in a slum area or take
his lunch sitting with the slum dwellers on a mat to
impress upon them that he is one of them.

6.Transfer- the candidate/speaker attempts to

persuade us through the indirect use of something
we respect, such as a patriotic or religious image, to
promote his/her ideas. Religious and patriotic
images may be the most commonly used in
this propaganda technique.

7.Card Stacking - a way to manipulated information

so that one product looks better than another and
happens when information is manipulated in order
to make something look better.
Application:

“Did you guys enjoy what we have today?”

“So, what did you have learned in today’s

discussion”?

“Very good!”

“What effect does propaganda have on people?”

“As a consumer or a citizen, what should you do in

order not to be manipulated by the propaganda”?

“Exactly, all of your answers are correct and I am

very grateful because you really recognize our topic
today.”

Performance Task:

- Make a recorded video of each type of

propaganda like I have presented earlier.
(product, person, an organization, or a cause)
- You can gather information on the internet
especially youtube for references.
- Minimum of 7mins, and maximum of 10mins.
- Deadline on Friday (presentation)
- Choose either advertisement, role play,
Jingle/song, radio broadcast, tv broadcast.
