I. OBJECTIVES:
1. To upgrade the interaction skills with academic content: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
2. To demonstrate ability to think critically.
3. To demonstrate behavior and attitudes appropriate to a school environment.
II. TITLE:
Project RACE: Reading and Comprehension Empowerment
III. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:
Reading teaches children about the world around them. Through reading, they are exposed to
ways of life, ideas, and beliefs around the world.
But what is important is to practice the certain aspect of reading which is comprehension.
The teacher observed that the grades 3 to grades 6 pupils can parrot words on a page all day
long but they don’t have the necessary comprehension skills. It simply means they don’t understand
what they read. Without comprehension, reading is simply following words on a page from left to right
while sounding them out.
Oral Reading Verification is an intervention for pupils who have needs on improving their
reading skills.
