This Special Instruction provides the necessary information to install the 435-3417 Power Train Guard Group on 950L, 950M, 962L, and 962M
Medium Wheel Loaders.

Do not begin any procedure outlined in this document or order any parts until you have read and understand the information contained in this
instruction.

Safety

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot
oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after

the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if
this pressure is not released before any service is done on the
hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil
is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the
oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap
is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not operate or work on this equipment unless you have read

and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation
and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or
heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact any
Cat dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your
responsibility.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during

performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and
repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and

Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect
and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and

mandates.

Prepare The Machine

1. Move the machine to a flat level area that will support the weight of the machine.

2. Lower any work tools to the level surface.

3. Release all hydraulic pressure in the system by moving all control levers and releasing pressure on hydraulic tank.

The 435-3417 Power Train Guard is made up of three plates that bolt to the bottom of the machine.

Note: The plates are heavy and will require the use of the appropriate lifting device while bolting the plates into position

1. Bolt 367-9029 Plate (5) into position on the underside of the engine frame using four 8T-4779 Bolts (4) and four 7X-0583 Hard Washers (1).
Tighten bolts to 240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 30 lb ft)

2. Mount 367-9033 Plate (6) to the underside of the frame with two 8T-4779 Bolts (4) and two 7X-0583 Hard Washers (1). Tighten bolts to
240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 30 lb ft)

3. Attach 367-9037 Plate (7) onto 367-9033 Plate (6) with four 8T-4195 Bolts (3) and four 7X-7729 Washers (2). Tighten the bolts to
55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 7 lb ft).
