poverty in India (2010)

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

The pie chart shows data on the different family types under the poverty line in the year 2010 in
India

As is presented in the graph, sole parents and single person without children were the highest in
percentages who lived in the destitute condition

As can be seen, 26% sole parents in India were economically insolvent in 2010 and this was the
highest ratio for the poor Indian family types. Meanwhile, one in twenty aged couples had to go
through financial hardships and it was 7% for the single aged person. Poverty was prevalent among
the singles without children as 24% of them were under the poverty line.

Couples with children had greater poverty rate than couples without children. While the 15% of former
family types witnessed economic misfortune, the latter accounted for 9% of such households. It is
worth noticing that all household also received 14% for the citizen from the poverty

The following graph gives a breakdown of Vietnam government expenditure for 2015

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

The given pie graph provides information on how the Vietnam spent its budget in 2015. In all, six
items are considered, namely social security, defense, Medicare, Medicaid, interest and “other” areas.

According to the graph, Vietnam government spent just 21 % on social security, 16 % on its Medicare
program, and 7 % was devoted to Medicaid. The defense department also took a large slice of the
budget, spending 20% that year on defense-related concerns. The remainder of the Vietnam
government’s budget expenditure for 2015 was slightly less specific, with 9% paying interest back,
although what precise type of interest being referred to here was unclear. Interestingly, the largest
portion/ lion’s share of budget expenditure was earmarked for unspecified “other” areas, at exactly
27%.
Overall, as clearly indicated by the pie graph, quite a large part of the Vietnam budget was spent
on the combined areas of health and social welfare, although a substantial amount was also used
for unspecified purposes.

The following graph compares the breakdown of land use in California

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

The pie graph shows the breakdown in percentages of the use of space in California, considering
mainly the allocation of urban, suburban and green space.
Remarkably, most of the town is made up of different types of parkland, with 34% of the town’s total
area marked out for this purpose, while another 22% of the town is considered as being exclusively
green space. Related to this, 7% of the total land area is devoted to woodland, while water takes up
another 5%.
Housing also takes up a large portion of land, although only 6% of the town comes under the label
of inner town housing, in contrast to the 15% that is allocated as suburban housing. The rest of the
town is divided between other uses of urban land and roads at 6% and 5% respectively/ each.
Overall, the pie graph clearly shows that a significantly large part of this town is considered as
either green space or parkland, while the use of space considered to be exclusively for urban use is
relatively quite small.

The pie charts below show the average household expenditures in France and USA in the
year 2008.

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

A glance at the two-pie chart provided reveals the average household spending in France and USA
in terms of five important categories in 2008.

In American households, the highest category was housing, which represented 34% of the total
expenditure. Whereas this was higher than in France, with just 23% spent on housing, French
householders spent the highest proportion on a range of other goods and services, at 24%. This was
slightly less than in USA with 26%.

In terms of food, for the figures both countries were similar, at 23% and 27% for France and USA
respectively/ each. Expenditure on health care was the lowest category. In France, this accounted for
7% of the total, while 20% of household spending went on transport. These figures were roughly
double those shown for USA.

Overall, it is clear that householders in both countries spent the largest proportion of their income
on just three categories – housing, food and other goods and services. The percentage figures for
spending on transport and healthcare in France were double those for USA.

pie charts present the expenses in different categories in 1950 and 1980 by Canadian
citizens.

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

The two provided pie charts compare the expenditure of Canadians in seven different categories
namely food, cars, petrol, restaurants, furniture, computers, and book between 1950 and 1980.

It is evident from the information provided that foods and cars made up the biggest proportions
of spending among Canadians in both years. Specifically, in 1950, the highest proportion of expenses
went to food with 44% of the total expense, followed by cars with 23%. After 30 years, this figure
observed a reversal when the spending for cars accounted for a massive 45% while that for food
dropped to just 14%.

Turning to the other expenses, petrol and furniture stood for roughly equal proportions of
money spent with 9% and 10% respectively in 1950 and both 8% in 1980. The expenditure for
restaurant experienced an increase of 7% in 1950 and a double to 14% after 30 years. It is also
interesting to note that the spending on books and computers changed conversely. Over the 30-

7

year period, the figure for books declined from 6% to a negligible 1%, in contrast, money spent on
computers underwent a remarkable growth from 1% to 10%.

In short, Canadians spent most of their money on food and cars in both 1950 and 1980, and the spending
for computers increased considerably after 30 years.

The pie charts show the average consumption of food in the world in 2015 compared to
two countries; Vietnam and Thailand

Write a report for a university lecturer, describing the information shown below.

The pie charts outline the types of food people ate in 2015 compared with the consumption of these
items in Vietnam and Thailand in the same year. As a general trend, processed food was the main
energy source for the world population and consumption of nuts and seeds in Vietnam and Thailand
was significantly higher than the world average.

As the illustration suggests, just over 40% diet of the global population came from processed food
in 2008 which was slightly greater than that of Thai and exactly 7% higher than that of Vietnam.
Vegetables and fruits provided somewhat one-third dietary requirements of the Vietnamese
citizens and precisely 23% of Thai. The world average for fruit and vegetable consumption was just
below 30%.

Interestingly, nuts and seeds accounted for almost one-fifth food stocks for the Vietnamese, a
noticeably higher rate than the world standard. Nearly one-tenth food rations in Thailand was from
nuts and seeds. Food derived from animals supplied more than one-fourth Thailand dietary
provisions, which was 12% higher than that of Vietnam and almost the same of the world’s dietary
demands.

The pie charts present how to get the news in Canada and Australia.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

The pie charts show the principle ways of finding out the news in two different countries, Canada and
Australia. The two nations show broadly similar patterns, though there are some differences, both
significant and minor.

One of the most prominent features of this data is that, while in Canada over a third of people access
the news online, in Australia the figure is more than half, at 52%. It is apparent that viewing the TV
news is popular in both countries, with about two fifths of Canadian population favouring this mode of
delivery and only 3% fewer in Australia. One major difference between Canada and Australia is that
over twice as many people read the news in print in the former, compared with the latter. The figures
are 14% and 7% respectively. Similarly, listening to the news on the radio is preferred by three times
more people in Canada than in Australia.

Overall, it can be said that the high levels of internet use in Australia mean that other methods such as
radio and print are used less in comparison with Canada.

The pie charts below show the devices people in the 18 to 25 age group use to watch television
in Canada in two different years.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

The two charts illustrate the appliances that young adults in Canada use to watch television programmes
and how this has changed over the ten-year period from 2009 to 2019. One of the key changes over this
decade is the transition from conventional televisions to flat-screens, with the former falling from 34%
to 4% and the latter rising from 8% to 27% for the period, making it the number one television device.
The latter has replaced the former as the most popular TV viewing device.

Another general trend is that younger people are now watching television on smaller, more portable
devices than in 2009. In particular, the use of mobile phones and tablets for viewing purposes has
increased by almost three quarters to 26% and tablet use seeing an almost four-fold increase to 19%. This
trend is reinforced by the number of 18 to 25-year-olds using computers for the TV viewing. Both
desktop and laptop computers saw substantial falls in usage (around a third for both).

Overall then, it can be said that the two pie charts suggest the TV viewing habits in Canada over the
period saw a move away from older devices and towards more modern equivalents.

The pie charts below show the most common advantages and disadvantages of Bowen Island,
according to a survey of visitors.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where
relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The two pie charts show the aspects of Bowen Island that tourists enjoy the most and the least.

12
Page 13 of 13_elmerwang

Bowen Island has many features that attract tourists but the most popular of these are the scenery and
the people, with more than two thirds of the visitors to the island listing these as the greatest advantages.
The standard of accommodation on the island appears to be more than adequate, with 11% of
respondents listing this as an advantage. 12% of visitors cite the culture of the island as a major
attraction.

However, the island seems far from being a perfect tourist destination. When it comes to the negative
aspects of the island, the high cost of living, poor weather and the quality or lack of entertainment are
seen as the worst of these. Together, these three categories make up 90% of the total disadvantages. In
spite of the high costs on the island, 10% of the visitors complain of poor food quality.

Overall, it seems that most people like Bowen Island because of the scenery and people. However, it is
possible that the unspoilt nature of the island means there is little in the way of entertainment and this,
combined with the high cost of living, makes it unlikely to appeal to everyone.
