Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the Animation 12 Self-Learning Module on Technical Drawing and

Design!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:

RECAP
Last time we discussed how data are being read by the computer. Let us try
to recall how to convert decimal to binary, and binary to decimal, by doing
the exercises below. Convert the following:

1. 11112 = ______________ 10
2. 11002 = ______________________ 10
3. 1102 = _______________ 10
4. 16110 = _____________________ 2
5. 25610 = _______________________ 2
LESSON

One way of communicating our ideas is through some sort of image or

drawing. Technical drawing, often referred to as drafting, is the act and
discipline of writing plans which communicate visually how something works
or is to be constructed. The use of simple lines will give your character a
figure, with gestures and personality. Another can function as pre-production
in animation production pipeline.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL
There are types of drawing equipment and material that you can use. Some
of them are the following:
1. Pencil
The first thing to take into consideration when selecting the perfect pencil
is your drawing style. Technical drawing and detailed artwork with fine
lines will require different pencils than those used for shading and
sketching figures.
Pencil Grades
Pencils come in a verity of grades & hardness degrees. Pencil grades
range from soft and easily smeared graphite(the gray matter inside the
pencil) to hard and obviously hard to smear ones.

Pencil Grades vary from soft and easily to smear lead to soft and more
black ones
• The H stands for “Hard” and B stands for “Black”
• The F in the middle stands for “Fine” or “Firm”, and it can be
sharpened easily to make a finer tip. It is between the H & HB. This
kind of pencil is good for writing. finer tip, It is between the H & HB.
this kind of pencils is good for writing.
• The harder the pencils is (the more H grade is has) the easier for it to
smudge, which is often exploited to make shading effects.
• Different countries use different grading scales, and they mostly use
grade pencil the same way (by hard or black).
• Because the B pencils are softer, they need to be sharpened more
than the H pencils.
Pencil Types
Graphite pencils-There’s no lead in pencils at all,
they 're made of graphite. The numbers assigned
relate to the amount of graphite in the pencil, the
harder the pencil, the softer the graphite, the
more clay binder. This is quicker to add graphite
to paper than charcoal and easier to take control
of. Working with them can be very relaxed and
enjoyable, particularly when you are in paired
with a smooth drawing paper.

Ebony pencils – instead of mixture of graphite

and clay, ebony pencils use a combination of
graphite and carbon.

Charcoal pencils – Charcoal pencils consist of charcoal powder mixed

with a gum binder. This concoction is then compressed into sticks or
encased in wood.

Vine and Willow Charcoal - Literally burnt twigs,

these pencils are uncompressed charcoal, and can
be used in much the same way as regular charcoal
pencils.

How to Hold a Pencil

Basic Tripod Grip- the basic grip in holding a
pencil. Used for drawing small details like the
corners of the eyes

Extended Tripod Grip – similar to the basic

tripod grip but is much higher on the pencil.
Same control with the tripod grip but less on
using the grip. This grip has the ability to keep
your hand from smudging the artwork.
Overhand Grip – Used for broad expressive
mark making. May use the side of the pencil to
create value. Coordinated with whole arm
movements.

Underhand Grip – a rotated tripod grip. A very

light, relaxed grip. Allows light gestural
sketching.

2. Protractor
A protractor is used for angle measurement. A
typical protractor is a semi-circular piece of plastic
printed along its curve, with 180 degrees. This
piece of equipment is not only used to construct
accurate drawings in graphics but is also used in
www.mathisfun.com
subjects such as mathematics. There is also a full
circle protractor available for graphics, which can be used precisely to
calculate angles greater than 180 degrees.
3. Compass
A compass is a scientific drawing instrument (or pair of
compasses) that can be used to draw circles or arcs. As
dividers, they can also be used as instruments for
measuring distances, particularly on maps. Compasses
may be used for math, design, navigation and other
purposes.
https://bit.ly/32i7rKP
Compasses typically consist of metal with two
sections connected by a hinge. One part at its end has a spike that stops
it from sliding onto the paper when drawing a circle or arc, and the other
part a pencil. The distance between the legs can be changed to allow the
dipped circle radius to change.
4. Set squares or Triangle
Set Squares are used for drawing precision
angles. The most common set squares are
degrees 45 and degrees 60/30. They can also
be used along with a T-Square when using the
fixed squares. The Set-square sits on the T- https://bit.ly/2DKCHI7
square 's straight side , making sure the angle is
drawn straight and accurately.
5. Ruler
One of the most significant pieces of drawing equipment
is a ruler. An opaque-type ruler should be used only for
measuring distances with T-Squares and Set Squares
drawing lines. But it should be remembered that unlike
a good T-Square or Set Square, the edge of a ruler is not guaranteed to
have a perfectly straight edge. Rulers used in technical drawing generally
consist of polystyrene.
6. T-Squares
Used for drawing all horizontal lines and assisting
certain pieces of equipment used in drawing angled
lines. It makes parallel, horizontal lines.

LINE DRAWING AND SCALES
A scale is the ratio of the length and size (linear
dimension)of an element of an object in the drawing to the
real length and size of the element of the object.
https://bit.ly/2CCl4cK
PROJECTION
Technical drawing is the representation on a two-dimensional drawing of a
three-dimensional object. The three typical views expressed in n projection
are called images with three panels. Three-paneled front, side, and top view
screen.

https://civilseek.com/orthographic-projection-drawing/

TYPES OF VIEW
The views may differ in the angle in which you are trying to project.
• Isometric view in which the component edges at a 30-degree angle to the
horizontal line drawn.
• Front view in which a component edge in a 7-degree angle to the horizon,
the other edge in a 42-degree angle.
• Planomeric view is in which both parts edge at 45-degree angle to the
horizontal line drawn.
BASIC STROKES

Straight slanted horizontal curved

BASIC SHAPES
Technical drawing consists of various simple geometric shapes arranged in
several ways to create other complex shapes. These complex shapes are
combination of shapes, lines, arcs circles, rectangles, and triangles.

• Squares- regular rectangle with all sides equal an all right angles.
• Rectangles – four-sided figures with all internal angles being kept
right angles.
• Triangles – three-sided figures. To draw a triangle, we should
remember:
o the sizes of the three sides
o the sizes of the two sides and the included angle
o the sizes of the angles and one side
