ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 05

What is a Case Study?

You might be at the stage in your design where you have come up with the first
iteration of your building and there’s just not enough depth to it, or it looks empty and
has no real meaning behind it. This is common when you’re starting out so don’t panic.
At this point, your tutors might suggest looking for a case study to further enhance
your project. That might sound good, but how do you even start? What even is a case
study you might ask?

This small but integral part of any design project is seemingly overlooked. There aren’t
many helpful guides or sets of instructions out there. First, you need to define for
yourself what a case study is. For some projects, a case study can be the starting
point of the project, for others it can be a link or reference that is relatable and can be
explained easily.

The requirement is to do a Case Study on any Government Institutions within

Pangasinan, Tarlac, or La Union which are existing and functional in relation to the
Energy Efficiency in Buildings. A lot of planning has been done and built but most of
these existing government institutions were not really adapting these factors in saving
energy, especially with the demands of today’s climate, the demand for artificial air
conditioners has elevated. Even spatial design considerations in relation to energy
efficiency were also neglected due to the lack of knowledge or expertise.

Look for any government institutions and do a case study pertaining to energy
efficiency. Each group shall have a unique subject for the case study so there will be
no the same building. Please organize your group in order to have good execution of
your schedules like site selection, analysis, site visitation, data gathering on plans and
other documents, etc. Please observe strict health protocols as we all are vulnerable
to the new variants of covid 19 virus.
