lesson How did you march? ( marching in time with the music )
Today, we are going to learn how to move in steady beat
C. Presenting examples/instances of ( put out the clock and show it to class )Say something about this object. What is
the new lesson this? ( clock ) What does it do? ( tells time )
What sound does the clock give out? ( tick-tock )
D. Discussing new concepts and Watch the video and say something about it.
practicing new skills #1  Video of a clock with hands moving
- How did the hand of the clock move? Was it steady?
- Imitate the sound of the ticking clock and move your hand to its sound
- How did you move your hand as you imitate the sound of the clock?
- Just like the clock, music moves steadily. It follows a pulse called beat.
- Watch, listen and follow what I will do ( teacher claps, taps, stomp following a
steady count – then children follow )
- Activity 1: divide the class in 3 then let them do the task of:
*Group 1 – clapping
*Group 2 – tapping
*Group 3 – stomping ( let the children do this one after the other)
E. Discussing new concepts and ( put out the percussive instruments )
practicing new skills #2 - Steady beat in music can be felt by using different instruments
- Let us use the drum to feel the steady beat. I will play the beat on the drum,
listen and watch carefully. ( after demonstrating, teacher calls on a student to do it
also )
- Activity 2: ( divide the class in 5 groups and assign a particular kind of instrument
to be used )
*Group 1 – empty shoe box as drum
*Group 2 – empty gallon of mineral water
*Group 3 – a pair of wooden sticks
*Group 4 – a pair of coconut shells or bao
*Group 5 – empty tin can of milk - I will play a music and you will use it to play your
instruments. Listen to the sound of the beat I will play then follow it on your own
instruments ( teacher demonstrates first how to do the beat then children will
follow )
F. Developing mastery Activity 3: Listening Skill
- I will play different sounds/music. Identify which plays a steady beat. Put your
thumbs UP if the sound/music has a steady beat; thumbs DOWN if it does not
( teacher may use previously recorded sound/music that are personally created or
may use other sources of sound/music )
G. Finding practical applications of Activity 4: “Your Pics sound Familiar”
concepts and skills in daily living - Look at the pictures I will show you. Imitate its sound that show steady beat
( teacher flashes pictures of objects/animals/etc… that show steady beat )
*Owl
*Church Bell
*Croaking Frog
*A carpenter hammering a nail to the woo
H. Making generalizations and What sound does music follow? ( steady beat )
abstractions about the lesson What happens to music/sound when it does not have a steady beat?
( it becomes noisy and unpleasant to hear )
I. Evaluating learning Group Activity: “My sound is Steady”
- The class will be divided into 4 groups an each group will create their own steady
beat by:
*Group 1 – Snapping the fingers
*Group 2 – Swaying of the hands
*Group 3 – Swaying of hips
*Group 4 – Slapping the laps
(Note: use rubrics in rating this activity)
