PERSONAL STATEMENT

When I was in senior high school, there was a massive desire to achieve a higher education
on a prestigious campus in Indonesia. And my dream took me to study at Padjadjaran University
studying Accounting that I completed in 2009. Since graduating, my career paths have been varying
in different fields from finance/accounting, administration, office management, and ultimately in
the Human Resources Management (HRM) area. Throughout my entire working tenure, I had
unforgettable moments interacting with colleagues from different nations, languages, cultures, and
habits. These precious experiences gave me the chance to polish my interpersonal skills, negotiation
skills, and communication abilities which are much required in the area to where I am committed
now.
My interest in Human Resources (HR) field was influenced by an assignment from a former
manager in a facility service company in 2011. I was an operational officer in charge of monitoring
the attendance and performance of over 1500 employees deployed in around 100 areas in Riau
Province. Initially, I was not excited with the assignments since I had to deal with a majority of low-
educated employees with low productivity, working as cleaning services, a job that some people
look down on. Most of them believed that this job would not take them anywhere. I eagerly
motivated them that despite their background, they could explore their hidden potential and be
awarded by the company in an appreciation event twice a year. My influence seemed to boost their
spirits and some of them were awarded repeatedly in every ceremony. As a result, the improved
quality of our manpower increased the monthly sales target by 50%, and I was considered
competent to manage people, which led me to my transfer to the HR division in 2012.
Then, in 2017, I moved to a paint manufacturing as the Personnel Head, where I developed
the required expertise to properly carry out my job as an HR professional, proved by my HRM
competency certification from National Professional Certification Agency in 2019. I had been
trusted by management to take over several issues including government examination, internal
conflicts, human capital development programs, and other external affair-related matters.
The HR profession is currently high in demand, especially in fast-paced industries. Despite
the technology development that pushes business owners to turn their operational activities into
more automatic and robotic, HR Personnel should be able to accommodate the company with
talented, multitasking, and excellent workers. While on the other side, HR Department is requested
by laborers to facilitate them in delivering their aspirations to top management. To be able to solve
these unending issues, an excellent HR staff must have advanced knowledge and leadership skill.
Albeit have years of experience, I realize my academic background is inadequate to tackle more
challenging employment issues in the future & gain recognition in thriving industries.
I am intrigued to apply for a master's program in Human Resources Management at the
University of Leeds which has a research center on employment relations & HRM-related matters,
known as CERIC. I may obtain an overarching concept to resolve recent labor problems in my
country such as disputes & labor underutilization which were triggered by policy changes over the
decades. These unending issues need to be addressed through an in-depth study of Employment
Relations acquired from first-hand HRM practice in the UK industries.
I am convinced my later qualification will be useful to generate the solutions for all
discrepancies existing among workers and top management with collective bargaining approach. I
have a strong faith that upon my master’s degree completion, I will be able to deliver my abilities in
creating a better system in the HRM’s implementation within the organization and assist the
government in improving the qualities of Indonesian human capital to create job enlargement.
