FREN102 NOM________________________

Fall 2022
Review for Test 2 (Unité 7)

The FREN102 Unit 7 Test will be on Wednesday, September 28 AND Thursday, September 29.

The first part will be IN CLASS on Wednesday, September 28, and will focus on reading and writing. The
second part will be on D2L on Thursday, September 29. You will not come to class for the second day of
the exam since it will be online.

For the first part, you will be writing in response to a written prompt such as an email.
The second part on D2L will focus on listening and speaking. You will have the entire day of Thursday,
September 29 (24 hours) to complete it. For the second part, you will listen to some recordings on D2L
and answer some questions, and for the speaking part, you will record your answers to a question (or
questions) on D2L using the recording tools on D2L.

To review, work through this review sheet and answer as many of the questions as you can. Also, go
through VHL and your textbook and review as many of the listening, reading, and writing activities as
you can. Practice speaking using the speaking practice on this review.

The exam, like this review, will be based on a context, and the sections of the exams (and this review)
will focus on communication within this context.

Remember that you will be graded on content (how much you say/write or try to say/write), clarity (how
understandable your speaking and writing is), and how effective you are at meeting the communicative
goals of the unit. Grammar and spelling will count for only a small part of the grade (but still try to pay
attention to correct spelling and grammar). Focus on communicating!

Remember that for any part of the exam taken online, you must make a Zoom recording of your exam
session and you must submit the URL for the recording after the exam, as soon as you can access the
recording. If no recording is submitted, your exam will not be graded, and you may have to take the
exam again if your instructor allows it.

PARTIE 1: Interpretive reading
You work for in marketing a hotel in Corsica (en Corse), and you’re looking for new ways to convince
people to stay at your hotel. The first thing you do is read this blog post about vacationing there to see
what your customers are looking for.

2
1. How do you interpret this sentence? / What do you think is the idea of this sentence? : « Il existe
des endroits magnifiques dans le monde mais il y en a un qui reste notre coup de cœur, notre petit
paradis: la Corse ! »

2. What are the two options for travelling to Corsica?

3. What’s a good website to help you save money during your travels?

4. Which region of Corsica is known for its magnificent beaches?

5. Based on the content below it, what do you think “Hébergements” means?

6. What are three common lodging options in Corsica?

3
7. If you were a traveler, in which of the “original activities” would you most like to
participate?

PARTIE 2: PRESENTATIONAL WRITING

With your new-found knowledge, write a social media post telling people to stay at your hotel,
and why they should, when they visit Corsica. You can talk about the amenities of your hotel, or
the nearby locations. Try to include at least one use of the imperative. You post should be 8-12
sentences.

PARTIE 3: PRESENTATIONAL WRITING 2

As a seasoned traveler, you’ve visited a lot of places and have a lot of travel experience. On your
travel blog, make an entry of 10-12 sentences in French, in which you:

- talk about the places that you’ve visited (you can invent!)
- how you travelled
- where you stayed

Identify one of the places that you stayed and that you particularly liked. Answer these questions:

- what did you do there?

- what did you see?
- where did you stay?
- do you recommend it? Why?

To conclude, give at least three pieces of advice for travelers, using the imperative.

PARTIE 4: Interpretive Listening

We will do this part in class on review day

You’re training a new customer service employee and listen to them welcome a new client to the
hotel. Listen to their interaction and then answer the following questions:

1. For how long did the client reserve their room?

2. For how many people did the client reserve their room?

3. What is the client’s room number?

4. Does the client have suitcases? If so, where are they?

5. Does the hotel have an elevator?

6. At what time does breakfast start and end?

7. How did the new employee do? Will they get to continue working at the hotel? (Your
opinion)

PARTIE 5: PRESENTATIONAL SPEAKING

6
As a member of the marketing team, you received a free vacation in Corsica so you could check
out the hotel and surrounding attractions. Leave a message for the other members of your team
telling them where you’ve been and what you’ve done. You can mention how you travelled
there, what you think about the hotel, etc. Your message should be at least one minute.

Inspiration:
- How was the journey there? Did you like the method of transportation you took?
- In what order did you do things?
- What did you like about the hotel? What didn’t you like about the hotel? What pieces of
information will help you convince people to stay there?
- What sorts of activities have you done? How did you do them (adverbs)?

Is there anything you need to tell your team members to do? Do they need to write something or
do something before you return to the office?

Your speaking on the exam will be evaluated according to this rubric:
