Pcu = copper loss Pa = armature copper loss = nIa2Rac ; n=no. of phases

1. Determine the efficiency of a 1500 kVA, 2300 V, 3-phase Y-connected alternator which operates at pf=
0.8. The dc resistance at 70°C between terminals is 0.08 ohm. The field takes 70 A at 120 V from the
exciter equipment.
F&W = 15kW ; Pi = 35 kW ; SPL = 1.5 kW
Assume skin effect to be 1.5

Synchronizing Power

where:

1. Find the torque of a 1800 kVA, 6.6 kV, 3-phase, Y-connected, 6-pole alternator having a resistance of 0.4
ohm reactance of 6 ohms delivers FL current at normal rated speed and 0.82 pf lagging for one mechanical
degree.

degree.

2. A 2.5MVA, 4 pole alternator runs at 1150 rpm in parallel with other

machine on 3300 V bus bars. The synchronous reactance is 23%.
