FINAL EXAM (SET 2): SYNTHESIS ESSAY

PROPER WASTE DISPOSAL

Garbage disposal has been a steady and a long-term major environmental problem in the
Philippines especially in urban areas. Improper waste disposal gravely affects the environment and
is a serious threat to health. According to Alvarez et al., (2017), trash disposal contributes to a
multitude of ailments mainly respiratory diseases, such as asthma and bronchitis. Incinerating
trash can be also destructive if not supervised. Fire can spread and burn nearby trees, wood houses
and can even harm animals. This disposal approach contributes a great deal to climate change since
burning garbage causes air pollution due to the release of greenhouse gases.

As hard as it may, improper waste disposal is remediable. In an article written by Merilin

Vrachovska in 2022, she suggested composing, recycling correctly especially the toxic substances,
choosing sustainable plastic-free options and avoiding single-used plastics as some of the few
solutions to wrestle waste disposal dilemmas. Personally, I want to encourage the government to
execute and reinforce laws regarding waste management strictly and rigorously.

Together we can lessen the effects of improper waste disposal through awareness and
discipline. Reduce your waste; use reusable bags when buying groceries instead of single-use
plastic bags. Look for ways where you can reuse, repair and salvage items. Encourage waste
prevention, minimization, and product renting and sharing when possible.

The damage that humanity is causing may be terminal, (Robitzki) 2021. If we don’t act
right now, we might miss our chance. If we don’t act, who else will?
