I. Objectives
At the end of 1 hour discussion the grade 8 students expected to:
1. Describe Linear Equations in two Variables
2. Solve the value OF A, B and C in Ax + By = C
3. Apply real life situations that can be modeled using Linear Equation in two
Variables.

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Good Morning class! Good Morning Ma’am!

Who can lead the prayer? (call a student from the class) (the chosen one will lead the prayer) all the
classmates will stand up and pray. In the
name of the father of son and the holy
(checking the attendance) say present once your name spirit… Amen!
being called.
Ms.
Present Ma’am
Who can recall our previous discussion? But before that
please make sure that the classroom is clean. (calling in One student gets up and said the previous
class who can recall the discussion) what the discussion is.

B. MOTIVATION

But before we continue to our discussion lets have

an exercise in which who can answer the problem will Students cheering.
be exempted for the exam later.
C.LESSON PAPER

Class our topic for today is all about illustrating

Linear Equation in two variables.

Anna and peters combined score in an exam is 19.

Can we write this algebraically?
Problems like the one above can be solved and
modeled using linear equation in two variables.

Anna’s score + peter’s score = 19

Replacing anna’s score by a variable x and peter’s score
by a variable y, the equation becomes:
X + y = 19

If A, B and C are real numbers, and if A and B are

not both equal to 0, then Ax + By = C is called a
linear equation in two variables. The numbers A
and B are the coefficients of the variables x and y,
respectively, while the numbers C is the constant.
Students listening to the discussion ……

Consider the equation below.

4y = 6 – 5x
The equation 4y = 6 - 5x is not a standard form because
it is not written in the form Ax + By = C, but this can be
transformed into standard forms as follows:

4y = 6 – 5x Given
4y + 5x = 6 – 5x + 5x Additive inverse property
4y + 5x = 6 – 0 Simplified
4y + 5x = 6 Additive identity property
5x + 4y = 6 standard form
Therefore, 5x + 4y = 6 is now written in standard form
when = 5 B = 4, and C = 6.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES:
1. Find at least 2 ordered pairs that satisfy the
equation 5x + 4y = 6.
SOLUTION
To do this, we will assign any value of X,
substitute it to the equation to solve for the value of y.
If x = 0, then

5x + 4y = 6 Given
5(0) + 4y = 6 Substitution
0 + 4y = 6 simplified
4y = 6 additive identity prop.
[1/4] [4y] = 6 [1/4] MIP
y = 6/4 MIP
y = 3/2 simplified

2. Determine if the ordered pair (2,-3) satisfies the

equation 2x – y = 7.

Solution:
In the given ordered pair, x=2 and y=-0 substituting
each value, we have

2x – y = 7
2(2) – (-3) = 7
4+3=7
7=7
Hence, the ordered pair (2,-3) satisfies the given
equation.

IV. EVALUATION

(Get 1 whole sheet of paper and answer the following)

Activity 1:
Write each of the following linear equation in two
variables in standard form.

1. 4y – 12 = 13
2. 4x + 8 = 2y
3. 7x + 5y + 25 = 0 Busy taking the exam ……
4. 13 = x – y
5. 16y = 2x – 32
6. 3x – y = 9
7. 5y + x = 2
8. 6 – x = y
9. 3y + 4 = x
10. 2x – y = 5

V. HOMEWORKS

Assignment:
Solve each of the following problems.

1. The difference of two variables x and y is 17. Find

two ordered pairs that satisfy this equation if the
value of y is 1 and 3.
2. The linear equation 3x+y=9 has x value equal to 0
and 2. Find two ordered pairs that satisfy the
equation using those values.
I will be checking it tomorrow so please prepare for Yes ma’am!
that.

But before I end this day do have any question regarding Nothing ma’am (students answer)
the discussion today please ask me so I can explain it
again to you.

Okey! If you don’t have question lets call it a day, Goodbye ma’am and thank you!
goodbye class!
