Edward Smith is giving an interview about his job as a logistics manager.

TV hostess: Hello everybody! Welcome to another episode of “Profiles”. Tonight, our
guest is Edward Smith, a logistics manager who wants to share with us an
overview of his job. Welcome Edward, thank you very much for accepting
our invitation.
Edward: Good evening. Thanks for having me.
TV hostess: Edward. Please tell us. What does a logistic manager generally do?
Edward: Well, we have many responsibilities. A logistics manager is in charge of
organizing the storage, distribution, and transportation of goods. We need
to control the stock levels, delivery times, and transport costs. So, we
basically analyze and coordinate a lot of information.
TV hostess: I see, so, do you play an important role in establishing business
relationships?
Edward: Absolutely, logistics managers can be like a communication bridge. We have
to develop a lot of connections with customers, suppliers, and transporters.
We also take part in negotiations where time and money are at stake, so
we have to do our best to obtain good costs and the speed of shipments.
TV hostess: What other skills can you grow at your job?
Edward: We can make a lot of progress in IT skills. Logistics managers need to use
advanced computer software to do inventory management. We can also
develop human resources skills since we take care of managing staff
according to the companies' or customers' needs.
TV hostess: That seems all very challenging! Managing staff is not always easy.
Edward: Sure, but as time passes, you get to know people better and you can
ensure an excellent work team. Besides that, managing staff includes a lot
of interesting work duties too such as implementing health and safety
procedures, planning projects, and looking after institutional improvement
plans.

dinero son lo que está en riesgo, entonces tenemos que hacer un mejor trabajo para
obtener buenos costos y la velocidad de los envíos.

Edwar; Nosotros podemos hacer mucho progreso en las habilidades. Un gerente


logístico necesita usar equipos avanzados de software para manejar el inventario .
También podemos desarrollar habilidades de recursos humanos, desde preocuparnos de
direccionar el personal asignado por la compañía o las necesidades del cliente.

Presentador; Parece que tienen todo un reto! Direccionar el personal no siempre es


fácil.

Edward; Seguro, pero con el pasar del tiempo, llegas a conocer mejor a las personas y
puedes asegurar un excelente trabajo en equipo. Además que, manejar personal
incluye muchas labores interesantes de trabajo, también como implementar métodos
de seguridad y salud en el trabajo, planear proyectos y observar después planes de
mejoras.
