Role Descriptor
DHL Express is looking for a Customs Clearance Supervisor to join and lead our team. He/she
will have to look after (on a daily basis) a customs clearance operations team on a rostered shift
basis ensuring that shipments enter and exit the country in accordance with network
procedures and transit time standards.

structure or personnel and permanent operational changes.

Key Responsibilities
He/she will have to perform the following key activities:
• DHL Customers:

o Portray a professional, courteous and helpful attitude in all dealings with internal and
external customers.
o Global Account Customer.
o Contact and confirm for clearance performance.
• Customs Clearance Manager :
o Set up clearance profile
o Bonded shipments monitor by daily basis.
• NCG Manager:
o Set up clearance quantity report.
o Bond age monitoring.
• Customs Authorities:
o Ensure communication and negotiation with customs for trouble case.
• Service providers:
o IT support to provide stable system.
• Trade Van:
o Monitor EDI transmission. Ensure data has been well received and feedback.
• All ICC Staff’s:
o Organize and control the staff’s to achieve yearly target and goal.
o Monitor the COA & BOS to meet RO target.
o Maintain pre-clearance performance.
• Gateway Operations staff at all levels:
o Enable to ensure the shipment’s complete clearance.
• Customers Clearance Operations Supervision:
o Organise appropriate shifts and manning levels to meet business requirements.
o Make decisions directly related to shipment processing.
o Prepare declarations as required and take responsibility for the lodgement of
declarations with the authorities.
o Ensure that the levels of pre-clearance/pre-release of shipments is maximised
o Ensure the timely payment and recording of customs duties / taxes.
o Resolve specific disputes or provide advice on technical issues with customers.
o Ensure that customer databases are developed and maintained.
• Customs Clearance Team Management:
o Ensure that gateway operations agents maintain a professional image to both internal
and external contacts.
o Manage the work of a Customs Clearance team to ensure accurate preparation of
Customs declarations and the timely lodgement of those declarations.
o Review the work of the team incorporating a risk management approach.
o Contribute to team effort to ensure the attainment of both inbound and outbound
shipment clearance, efficiently within clearance performance targets and transit time.

• Safety and Quality Assurance:
o Ensure safe working practices and environment within the shift.
o Participate in gateway quality policy and initiatives e.g. ISO.
o Develop a high performance service culture within the functional department. Plan,
organize and direct and efficient and effective functional department.
o Consult performance appraisal.
o Manage the allocation of appropriate resources and commitment of staff to the
achievement of Global, Regional and Country objectives and targets.
o Identify training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled functional
department.
