S + be/V + (Adj/Adv) + “-er” + than

 Jennie’s grades are higher than her sister’s.

 Today is colder than yesterday.
 My girlfriend came later than me.

2. Cấu trúc so sánh hơn với tính từ và trạng từ DÀI

S + be/V + more + Adj/Adv + than

 He is a more professional soccer than me.

 He speaks Korean more fluently than his friend.
 She visits her family less frequently than I used to.

So sánh nhất
1. Cấu trúc so sánh nhất với tính từ và trạng từ NGẮN

S + be/V + the + Adj/Adv + -est

 My brother is the tallest in our family.

 Sunday is the coldest day of the month so far.
 He runs the fastest in my city.

2. Cấu trúc so sánh nhất với tính từ và trạng từ DÀI

S + be/V + the + most + Adj/Adv

 The most boring thing about English course is doing grammar exercises.

 Lisa is the most careful person I ever have known.
 Of all the students, she does the most quickly.
So sánh bằng
1. Cấu trúc so sánh bằng với TÍNH TỪ và TRẠNG TỪ

S + be/V + as + (adj/ adv) + as

 I’m as good in Maths as in science.

 Harry sings as beautifully as a singer.
 Her car runs as fast as a race car.

2. Cấu trúc so sánh bằng với DANH TỪ

S + V + the same + (noun) + as

 She takes the same course as her colleague.

 She speaks the same language as her father.
 I wore the same dress as my sister at her birthday party.

So sánh kép
1. Với tính từ

The + comparative + S + V + the + comparative + S + V

 The sooner you take your medicine, the better you will feel

Short adj: S + V + adj + er + and + adj + er

Long adj: S + V + more and more + adj

 The weather gets colder and colder

  Sharon is more and more beautiful when she grows up.

2. Với danh từ

The more/less + N + S + V, The more/less + N + S + V

 The more guests we invite, the more fun the party will be.
 *Một số tính từ và trạng từ đặc biệt trong câu so sánh:

Với những tính từ dài có hai âm tiết nhưng tận cùng bằng -er, -le, -ow, -et, ta xem như là
một tính từ ngắn:
clever → cleverer → the cleverest
simple → simpler → the simplest
narrow → narrower → the narrowest
quiet → quieter → the quietest

Với những tính từ và trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng -y, ta chuyển -y thành -i
rồi thêm đuôi -er hoặc -est:
dirty → dirtier → the dirtiest
easy → easier → the easiest
happy → happier → the happiest
pretty → prettier → the prettiest
early → earlier → the earliest

Tuy nhiên, những trạng từ có hai âm tiết mà tận cùng bằng -ly, ta cần dùng cấu trúc
"more" hoặc "most":
 quickly → more quickly → the most quickly
likely → more likely → the most likely

Với những tính từ ngắn, nếu trước phụ âm cuối từ là một nguyên âm, thì ta gấp đôi phụ
âm cuối từ:
big → bigger → biggest
sad → sadder → saddest

Khi cần nhấn mạnh một tính từ trong cấu trúc so sánh hơn, ta dùng một trong những từ
sau: much, a lot, far,...
The song today is much better than that one from yesterday.
(Bài hát hôm nay hay hơn nhiều so với bài hôm qua.)
Alex is far shorter than his brother.
(Alex thấp hơn nhiều so với anh trai.)
