Modern manufacturing practices have evolved a long way from conventional
methods. Industries today have become more complex and integrated than they
used to be in the past. This is resulting in to challenges for the insurance
professionals in the identification of risks and associated hazards.

It is often said that the risk engineers are the ‘eyes and ears’ of the property
underwriter who needs to correctly categorize the risk occupancy and charge
Preamble premium. Risk Engineering Cell, a team of diversified engineers at Liberty
General Insurance is not only assisting underwriters but also committed towards
our valued business partners and salesforce. In this endeavor, the need for
demystifying various occupancies under Property insurance was felt.

“OccupanCyclopedia” is a monthly newsletter series that would come in handy


to all parties associated with the property line of business and aid in
understanding the basics of manufacturing industry i.e raw materials, finished
goods & processes involved via pictorial presentation.

Definition

Abrasives are substances used to polish, smooth out or machine other softer materials through
extensive rubbing. Both natural and synthetic abrasives are commonly available in a wide
variety of shapes including blocks, belts, discs, wheels, sheets, rods and loose grains.

Magnesium and Aluminium are light metals which are used in varied capacities for structural
applications, chemical, metallurgical, electronics and other industries. These metals can

Aerated water is distilled water to which air/specific gas is added to improve its flavor.
Manufacturing of mineral water, soda, beverage, etc. would fall under aerated water
factories. Bottling facilities can have glass handling / blow molding / aluminium can

Incense is used for aesthetic reasons, aromatherapy, meditation, and ceremony. Incense is
composed of aromatic plant materials, often combined with essential oils.
