10 words I don’t understand from a COVID-19 article and their meanings and how to use them in
a sentence.

1. stringent - (of regulations, requirements, or conditions) strict, precise, and exacting.

- The laws are even more stringent in continential countries.

2. etiology - the cause, set of causes, or manner of causation of a disease or condition

- It is now clear that mutations in speci c genes contribute to the etiology of various
disorders.

3. reservoir - a population, tissue, etc. which is chronically infested with the causative agent of a
disease and can act as a source of further infection.

- There is a vast reservoir of herpes infection in the community.

4. incubation - the process of incubating eggs, cells, bacteria, a disease, etc.

- The chick hatches after a month's incubation.

5. elucidate - make (something) clear; explain

- Work such as theirs will help to elucidate this matter.

6. consensus - a general agreement.

- There is a growing consensus that the current regime has failed.

7. mortality - death, especially on a large scale.

- The causes of mortality among infants and young children.

8. Convalescent - (of a person) recovering from an illness or medical treatment.

- He was not dead, but evidently the crisis was over and he was convalescent .

9. dissuade - persuade (someone) not to take a particular course of action.

- His friends tried to dissuade him from ying.

10. acute - (of a disease or its symptoms) severe but of short duration.

- The infection is acute without any carrier status.
