English as a Global Language

Living in a fast-paced environment, people are now learning new ways faster than in
the past. It is as fast as English becoming the predominant language which we now
consider the global language. The English language is widely taught all throughout the
world. Yet, how do we know what criteria a particular language should achieve to be
called a global language? What is a global language? Why a global language? And
how do we effectively communicate globally through writing?

What is a global language? According to Gohil (2013) as a "common language

spoken by people with different native languages". Based on Gohil, a global language
should be a common language that is universally used by all the countries around the
world, which we also called as the lingua franca. For a language candidate to be
considered a global language, some requirements must be met, such as the number of
countries using it as their first language, countries adopting it as their official
language, and countries teaching it as their foreign language of choice. Being a global
language is not just by the number of people who speak it, however, it is the influence
of the speakers on how powerful they can persuade the people.

Why a global language? Global language is being used primarily to have effective
communication that the majority can understand. In addition, global language is used
in different fields such as medicine, business, laws, globalization, and more. An
important way of having a global language is to avoid miscommunication and to be
able to express ourselves without minding the language barrier.

How do we effectively communicate globally through writing? Due to the global

language, writing allows us to communicate successfully on a worldwide scale. English
is utilized in textbooks, journals, tale books, and other literary publications. Various
nationalities can comprehend another's culture as well as the purpose of writing it due
to this lingua franca. Moreover, writing is a form of communication, very much like
speaking in a global language. Additionally, we can educate, persuade, and
communicate with others through writing, regardless of their mother tongue.

To summarize, we acknowledge that English is a global language. Even in every

country, you may go English still exists it may be a heard conversation or a store sign
you walk past. The English language is the ideal choice for a global language since it
makes our lives easier because it is what we are familiar with, despite any prejudices
that may exist. In addition, it is highly adaptable and flexible since it keeps up with the
rapid changes taking place in the world.
