1700s, KALESA
Kalesa, the concept of transportation in
the Philippines has already started with
our ancestors’ usage of animals as the
means to move goods, people, and their
services from one place to another.
1800s, BALSA
Balsa is similar to kalesa however
instead of a horse, carabao is the
primary source of power. This is mainly
seen in rural places where farmers use
it to transport their goods and also as
transportation.
1946, TRICYCLE
Tricycles are our modern-day kalesa. This
motorized vehicle with cabins is enough to carry
at least 4-5 persons on each ride. This mode of
transportation is usually used by people whose
point of destination is not on the regular route
of jeepneys.
1950s, JEEPNEYS
Jeepneys have been an iconic mode of
public transportation in the Philippines
for decades. They provide affordable
and convenient transportation to
millions of commuters.
1901, AUTOMOBILES
Cars and motorcycles were introduced and made
available in the country by trading companies as
early as 1901, with Dr. Juan Miciano, being
acknowledged as the first Filipino to buy and
operate a motor vehicle. Automobiles are more
efficient and convenient as they can accompany you
anywhere you want to go.
