SWP 06 - Use of Portable Platform Ladder
RESPONSIBILITIES The Managers and Supervisors must ensure that the safe work procedure for use of
portable Platform ladders are being communicated to the workers prior to work
commencement
The supervisors are to ensure that the risk control measures stated in the risk
assessment is being implemented and monitored.
Workers are to ensure that the safe work procedures are being adhered to.
PROCEDURES
Safe Work Procedures for Use of Portable Platform Ladder
a. Workers are recommended to use the ladder for a short period of time
(<10mins). Thereafter, supervisors are to implement worker rotation for the
use of the Platform ladder. This is to prevent the worker from falling off the
ladder due to loss of concentration.
b. Use of portable Platform ladders is only recommended for short period of work
eg 5 minutes to 15 minutes.
c. Ladders shall not be placed near open side whereby there is a possibility of
the ladder falling towards the direction of the open side.

f. The site management will provide portable Platform ladders for use by
workers upon confirming that buddy system (A user and a co-worker) is
available during the use.
h. Ladder must be inspected and ensure free of slippery steps before use.
j. Safety shoes must be worn during the use of Platform ladder, to prevent
slipping hazard.
l. Ladders are not to be placed where they are liable to be struck by doors,
vehicles and passer-by.
Human Factor
a. Workers to have sufficient and uninterrupted rest the night before
