Topic Disasters and Disasters Preparedness

Learning Competencies and Objectives

Learning Competency The learners should be able to practice and develop proficiency in
executing response protocols and procedures through safety drills.

Objectives After this lesson, learners are expected;


● To describe the factors of disaster.
● To enumerate different ways to be disaster prepared.
● To demonstrate the ways in preparing before, during and after
the disaster.

Elicit (5 minutes) Materials


Activating Prior Knowledge

● Television

The teacher will determine the students'


prior knowledge by asking them to
consider the following inquiries:

● What can you see in the picture?


● How can you differentiate the pictures above?
● How does preparedness help the people in disastrous situation?
Engage (10 minutes)
Raising Curiosity!

● What are the factors that can cause a natural phenomenon?


● What is the importance of being prepared?

Explore (10 minutes)


Brainstorming
The teacher will post 3 subject disaster and student will form a ● Images
group that choose one subject disaster and provided a time to examine the ● Ballpen

● What causes a disaster?


● How extensive was the area affected?
● What could have been taken to prevent the loss of so many
lives?

Explain (10 minutes)


The teacher will describe the effects of different types of disasters to
the life of people including earthquake, typhoon, volcanic eruption, tsunami ● Ballpen
and climate change. Moreover, the teacher will also explain different safety ● Paper
precautions, also the ways to prevent disasters.

Based on the outcome and prediction answers on the activity the


students are task to answer:
● What are the factors affecting the climate on each situation?
● Does the elevation of the place affect the climate?
● Does temperature changes, based on latitude?

Answering this question will determine the learning of the student


about the topic.

Elaborate (10 minutes)

The student will work individually and create an essay explaining ● Ballpen
the factors of disaster and how can you handle such situation. ● Paper

Extend (10 minutes)

Based on the learnings, students will be encouraged to demonstrate


on class the ways on how to be prepared before, during and after disaster
time.
Also, state what are the other possible ways on how to cope up with
a disastrous situation.

Evaluate (5 minutes)
The students will make a slogan and present it in the front of their
class. ● Ballpen
The students will orally be answering the teachers’ question about ● Paper
the topic.
The teacher will also be evaluating the students by giving them short
test exercise.
