Pharmacy Audition Breakdown

2 Roles:
Jack
Male, 15-18, Awkward and charming in his own special way. His shyness
can sometimes come off as rude to those who don’t know him. Jack
struggles to recover from an old relationship he had with a girl he is still in
love with… All ethnicities. Series Regular.

Denise
Female, 15-18, Outgoing, sarcastic and flirty. Denise has an attractive quirk
and cleverness about her. She is very independent and won’t let anyone
stop her from reaching her future goals, even if that means cutting off
meaningful relationships… All ethnicities. Series Regular.

Self tape Instructions:


Slate: Full body slate. Name, Age (if under 18), Height, Location
Set up: Frame your audition from the chest up. Make sure there is about
two inches of space above to account for movement. Avoid distracting
backgrounds and noises. Make sure the subject is well lit. The actor will
need a reader, do not voice record over your audition. Due to Covid, actors
may have FaceTime readers if needed. Make sure the reader is not louder
than the actor.

INT. CVS PHARMACY - NIGHT

M Jack walks the aisles looking at his shopping list: toe


cream and chocolate are checked off. The last thing he
needs are pads.

Jack stops at aisle eight: feminine care. He turns to find
-- DENISE looking at tampons. Terrified, he retreats but
ends up tripping over himself, knocking down some shelved
vitamins.

DENISE
(rushing over)
Oh my god! Are you ok--
(realizing)
Jack?

JACK
Hi, Denise...

DENISE
Jesus, Jack. My first time seeing
you in two months and your sprawled
out on the floor of a CVS.

Denise helps him up.

JACK
Thanks. Ugh god, I’m--

DENISE
A klutz? Not much has changed.

JACK
No, embarrassed. But yeah that one
too.

Denise starts shelving the fallen items.

JACK (CONT’D)
Oh, no you don’t have to help.
Really, I got it.
JACK
It’s
fine.
DENISE

No seriously, just go.

Just then Denise picks up:

DENISE
Dr. Scholl’s fast acting toe cream?
Makayla Lysiak 35.
Christ.

JACK
DENISE
I guess you have
changed.
(sotto)

JACK
It’s not mine. It’s for my
girlfriend.

DENISE
Girlfriend? Wow, already?

JACK
Well, It’s been two months. A lot
can happen in two months.

DENISE
Mhm, like a foot fungus infection.

JACK
(chuckles)
Shut up.

DENISE
What’s her name? And grade. Maybe I
know her. Does she go to King?

JACK
Is this an interview?

DENISE
Just checking to see if she’s
imaginary.

JACK
Ava Ellickson. She’s in our grade
and no, she goes to Washington. We
were at the drive-in and she
started her... you know. Now I’m
here getting her pads.

DENISE
Get the brand Always. Those are the
best.
it...
JACK
Got

Jack starts to walk away, when--

DENISE
Hey, no goodbye? No thank you?

JACK
(dryly)

Thanks.
Dude why are you being
such a jerk?

DENISE

Why do you care? Especially now?
You don’t have me to, what was it
you said? “Weigh you down”?

DENISE
I never mean’t it like that.

JACK
But that’s what you said. Your free
now so don’t worry about me. Okay?

Jack walks away down aisle eight, leaving Denise feeling


a little bit remorseful. We linger on her until we hear:

JACK (CONT’D)
Uhm, wait sorry. What was it called
again? The brand?

Always.
DENIS JACK

Oh okay, I see. Thanks.


DENIS
Jack..
E

JACK
Yeah?
DENISE
I just wanted to say one last
thing...
Jack looks back to Denise. They hold each others gaze.

DENISE (CONT’D)
... You never explained the toe
fungus thing.

JACK
Jesus Christ.

Denise smiles.
